Can anyone look up an out of state VIN?

I've been wanting to locate my old Chevelle, and I finally found an old registration receipt today. Therefore I have the VIN...but I sold the car to a guy in IL back around 2003, so I know that it went out of state. Any of you guys have a way to do a VIN search for a car that isn't in Texas?
