  • Thoughts on buying a daily with rebuilt title.

I've gotten the idea that a nice Excursion is exactly what my family needs for the weekends. I've found a really clean, fully loaded '05 with 4x4, bulletproofed with paperwork 6.0, all the options I want etc for a real good price. It looks nearly brand new, inside and out.

Here's the rub: it has a rebuilt title. The guy sent me pictures of it after the wreck showing the damage which he claims was a fender bender. To me, it looks like he wasn't paying attention and rear ended someone. The damage was to the front bumper and grill.

The seller claims that his insurance automatically totals anything over 10 years old. I'm no insurance whiz but my BS flag got raised at that comment.

Would you guys completely avoid the truck due to the rebuilt title?

    Thanks..

I've had or two rebuilt titles as dailys. In my opinion if the price is right and all the paperwork is there its no big deal. Just know when you sell it you'll take the same hit he is taking. A big deal to me is how many miles are on it since it was wrecked. Make sure its been on the road long enough to know if theres any leftover problems. some people won't touch them but I've gotten a nice ride for a lot less then the similar ones and never had a problem so while you can always get a bad one theres certainly good ones too

As long as it's not a pink title, and the price is far not a bit deal.

Without my gun hobby. I would cut off my own dick and let the rats eat it...

20-30% off the price and go with it. So long as it's fixed and it wasn't flood, it doesn't bother me.

I had a rebuilt title civic for over 10 years that I treated like crap. Oil changes about every 7000 miles never did any of the recommended maintenance and it was still chugging along when I have it to my brother.

Its fine just make sure with your insurance that they will give you full coverage on it and not liability only.

Really? As in an uparmored Excursion? If done real, it is gonna weigh around 13,000-14,000 pounds. Better hope the brakes and shocks/springs are upgraded too.

I'd like to see this? Post the pics.

I've got a lot of experience driving and working on uparmored Excursions

Depends on why it was totaled to me. If it was t-boned with major frame damage id run away. A light front end collision that you saw the extent of the damage wouldn't bother me if it drove right, didn't dog walk, and was fixed right.

make sure you run the vin. It could also be a car out of one of the flood areas

It could be trouble, if it drives straight and has new parts I'd go for it as long as it's atleast 2500 cheaper than a non salvage

I had a black civic with 300k miles salvage title and hail damage and it was one of the best cars I ever owned. Alot of maintenance was done after it was salvaged for a front end collision and it ended up being a really nice civic compared to other cars that never saw as much as a new radiator hose or tune up at regular intervals

I've owned a handful of salvage cars. It isn't worth the resale headache or the troubles that come with it.

                              Depends on several factors...

Are you buying it to keep and drive? or to drive and flip next year?

Has it been repaired correctly or just good enough?

Is the price very attractive vs just a good deal?

Lots of cars with salvage or rebuilt titles are fine to drive but the stigma attached creates drama and resale issues down the road.
