  • Maybe the wrong section, but this is a PSA for 6.7 diesel owners

For anyone that either owns or is thinking about buying a 6.7 Ford diesel, the high pressure fuel pump slowly eats itself up.

Ford offers a kit with pump, injectors, rails, etc... retail is 4300.00, does not include the labor.

When I removed the VCV ( volume control valve ) it was caked with metal shavings.

Not from fuel contamination, just normal wear from the high pressure pump chewing up the cylinder walls.

This truck has 145,000 miles, 7700 engine hours

Powerstrokes have been touchy little bitches since the 7.3L got phased out. My brother in law had a 6.7L, the PCM died at 47K miles. Bought my dad a 6.0L, boy was that a mistake.

2010-11 6.7s have a known issue with glow plugs breaking and falling into the cylinders

2004-07 f150 5.4's have problems with broken spark plugs

I like the new ford trucks but I'm sure there are some other design flaws with the engines we will find out about eventually

Not just Ford Powerstrokes, the Duramax uses the same high pressure pump. They have no way to hold the roller lifter straight in the bore except for tension of the roller staying in contact with the cam. Lots of problems because somebody cheaped out on a roll pin and notch cut in the bore.

I wouldn't call it normal wear when I see those pumps going 300+ regularly.

If you run low lubricity fuel through any modern diesel, you're going to tear up the pump

Can you expand on this, Forrest?

Please send me the contact for anyone who has 300k on 6.7, that has not changed any engine or fuel componets

Just to piggy back a bit, one of my clients does Ford diesel repair and has sold several of those fuel systems recently. You're not alone.

Is there a way around this? Fuel additive or something? No way around using ULSD as far as I know. I know in OK they impose massive fines if you're caught on a road with farm/offroad diesel.

CRC part number 05432. Good stuff, we sell several cases a week.
