I was thinking of gettin a new gallon water and freezing it and refrezzing. PvC pipe is a nice ideas.

The ice is for keeping my water cold fo work not partying. I still don't go out, may go to gas monkey bar every now and then.
PVC pipe is idea would be great to throw in the pool when I decide to go swim.

I drive by there every day on the way to and home from work. I wonder how much money a gig like that could make? Seems like a rather simple business with a little work and a return investment.

The best is ice blocks, second best is freezing jugs, 3rd is the PVC for keeping things cold. I typically use the PVC now to keep my coolers cold inside. Just swap them once a week. The problem with them all is that they waste some space. Was not a big deal in my 100+ quart coolers, but using 65 quart pelican coolers now. Been trying to think of a DIY version of these....

...to maximize space. The PVC works well, but does not seem quite as cold as the other variations.

I use them pretty frequently.. Doesn't hurt that my house is right down the street.

Plus you can use a credit / debit card. And if you use cash you will get 1 dollar coins back.

Lots of money in ice for sure. Not sure about that particular style of business, but Ice is huge in the convenience store and grocery store market.

My boss invented a machine that goes between the ice machine and merchandiser. It dispenses a set amount, bags and seals the bags. He sold the business a while back so this number is certainly outdated but it used to be something like $.38 in overhead for a bag of ice using his product/method.

For people who mass produce like Emergency/Reddy Ice, the cost is obviously less. They charge their customers outrageous prices comparatively.

If this is a daily thing you should just get one of those 12v refrigerators..

This one is supposed to be pretty good and one of the few decent size and good working ones that don't cost $1k:

Find a cheap motel 6 and raid the outside machine.

If ya want to be cheap freeze gallon jugs and throw them in there.

If you need ice all day, try this. Get some 1 liter bottles, fill with water, tie them together on a stringer. Also carry a cooler with a block of dry ice in it. When the ice melts in the bottles, pull them out and drop them in the cooler of dry ice to refreeze. It's handy to have two stringers so you can use one while the other is refreezing.

I know a couple endurance race teams that use this method for cool shirt coolers to they can swap it out quickly without having to drain it constantly.

Portable fridges, I'd stick with ARB. Popular with boaters, get cold and the reason popular with boaters is low power usage.

That is true they do use very little power, and some have a shut off if they sense the car battery is getting too low. But I wouldn't leave one in the back of a truck either.

Generally ya. They say they run fine off small solar panels too. I'd be inclined to turn it off at night, but it would probably be fine during the day between trips.
