Has anyone been to the area this year. We are due to take a weekend trip but man I am seeing reports of sea lice and flesh eating bacteria. I am really not feeling good about the trip at this point.

I took the family down at the beginning of the month. We survived.

My girl friend and her family spent last week down there and had no issues. Also the sea turtles were taking to the water last week

Not really an issue unless you are immunodeficient and/or have an open wound. The guy who contracted flesh eating bacteria and subsequently lost his leg, was a diabetic and admitted to have had a wound on his foot. A healthy individual shouldn't have any issues. If it was as dangerous as some would lead you to believe, there would be an epidemic. That area is packed in the summertime. We've vacationed at Mustang Island a few times over the years. The water has always been nasty, especially after the oil spill back in 2010. Not the ideal beachfront. Only went there because we had a nice timeshare condo on the beach at the time.

Leah, her daughter and mom spent the second week of June on South Padre without issue. Of course, it's a little further south.

Give me a week or two and I will let you know how things turned out.

Odds are, you have nothing to worry about......but I am sure there will be a story to tell anyway.
