  • For Active Duty\Veterans... Cool deals on Oakley Stuff

Oakley Standard Issue is a division of Oakley? committed to serving the needs of Military, Government, Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS professionals.

Oakley's Military and Government sales site.

You'll need to send them a pic of a valid military id or dd214 to register.

I'm looking around in here and it looks like most of the cool sunglasses and ballistic eye wear is about 25% off.

You won't be able to see pricing until you are approved....

I order from there often. They used to be like 50% off, but the discount isn't that huge any more.

I'm so out of touch on "good" sunglasses, what do square wires run nowadays?

I don't know what square wires are, but good shades aren't cheap. I just picked up a pair of polarized Maui Jim Banyans for $219 and a pair of Oakley Carbon Shifts with the Prizm polarized lenses for $350 this past weekend.

Banyans are $159.95, not sure if polarized but they list for $219. Govx pricing at least.

oh I know. I went through a slew of oakley's when my now ex BIL was sending me demo's frequently. Ive been buying cheapies since the kids would get ahold and ruin sunglasses like crazy, and I was dumb and let a pair fall in the lake.

This last pair of cheapies were bought over a year ago, so I think it's time again to buy something good again.

Yep, I paid $219. No discount for me. This is my third pair, and they have gone up from like $180-ish since I got my first pair. I honestly don't even remember what happened to that first pair. I broke my second pair a couple of weeks ago banging my truck on the trails. I hit a bump or a dip hard enough that my head smacked the A-pillar, and cracked my glasses. I threw them away, and have since learned that MJ will replace them for like $40 when shit like that happens. Good to know for next time.

I've found that I break/lose cheap ones pretty easily, but when I pay more, I tend to take a lot better care of them and keep up with them better. Plus, the lenses on a good polarized pair really make a big difference. Gotta keep those eyeballs safe. Also, there are very few styles that don't look ridiculous on my big fat head, so my options are limited.

My head is assemetrical, so I cant wear hard frame glasses. Ive found wire frames can be tweaked to fit well, and are comfortable.

Maui Jim has some pretty badass new ones that I checked out at Sunglass Hut this weekend. The frame part that goes from the lenses to behind the ear was a very thin wire. They were super lightweight and I liked the way the lenses looked, BUT they didn't have hinges, so they stayed "open" all the time. They were also $399, and that feature just seemed like an inconvenience to me, so I passed on them. I like to be able to put them in the sunglass holder in my overhead console. They were flexible, and would probably just bend to squeeze in there, but I'd rather not dick with that.

Y'all need to shop Amazon for sunglasses if you're paying full retail, unless you need them right now instead of waiting for 2-day shipping. I got a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers with polarized lenses for half of what the Ray-Ban site had them listed at. They were sold by Ray-Ban, on Amazon, no defects, just 50% cheaper than what the Ray-Ban website and any other retail store was selling them for.
