Mike, I have had hard lessons already here in Alaska and it only got to -25 last winter lol, but it sucks having to go do a recovery of a stuck vehicle in even those temps. I wish the pilots and the ones who need out, all the luck I can send

Sounds like it was a 10 hour flight to the South Pole, they gave the crew 10hrs rest, then they took off. I am honestly surprised they didn't fly with 2 crews, so the second crew could fly back. However, I have helped bring in a Medevac into McMurdo and have been in the conference rooms, so I know the amount of planning that goes into these kinds of operations. I can only imagine it was a weight concern so, I will just assume this is what had to be done. All I know is that having an airplane sit in the cold (especially at that temp!) is hell. You can't start the engines, fuel gelling, etc. They probably wrapped everything with wool blankets and put heaters on it (same heaters we are using on the dozer). But even the heaters don't like running in that kind of temp.

Also, a bit of info. Somebody politely questioned/called out the National Science Foundations photo... you can't get the snow mobiles we have to run in those kinds of temps, so it must be an old picture.

But, at least the flight is headed back to Rothera. The hardest part is over.

The latest is that the melting ice has revealed pyramids, and due to UFOs there are several no-fly zones.

        It's all a cover-up!
I have been having fun watching all of the youtube videos on all this. It't been very entertaining to say the least.

Alien vs Predator is a good documentary on Anatarctic pyramids.

Very true! One I liked was talking about how the poles are open and lead to middle earth. Fun fiction for sure.

I think you missed the reference. If you haven't seen the original movie, you need to immediately. Great flick!

                YUp.

                Don't watch the remake.

The original is on a different level of badass and creepy.

No, not The Thing from Another World. The 1982 version.

Yes, I know. The post you quoted was referring to the cold environment and it's relation to the movie.
