Deaths from Gators are on the rise, but incredibly rare. From 1970 to 1999 we had 10 deaths total. From 2000 to 2010 we had 13. Since July 2015, we've had 5 deaths.

Gators don't really like humans for food. In almost every case, the body is recovered intact as it was in this child's case. Humans eat a helluva lot more gators because they are yummy.

Much more dangerous is the recent Nile Crocodile infestation in Florida. Crocs WILL eat humans. Crocs kill a crap load of people in Africa.
Florida is home to a slew of invasive species, but now the king of all crocodiles appears to be calling the sunshine state home as well.

IMO, blaming the parents here is pretty much a dick move done by people that don't have the maturity to edit themselves on the web. The kid wasn't really swimming, he was in 6 to 12 inches of water at the most. He could have been on the sand and still be taken. A No Swimming sign can mean a lot of things to different people.

Someone from Nebraska may know of dangers of alligators in Florida but it isn't something that will be constantly on their minds. They can also be lulled into complacency because they are at a vacation resort. It is very easy to think that Disney has way to keep gators out of a small lagoon.

    Empathy isn't that hard....

Just saw last night there is an old overgrown water park from the 70's next to that lagoon. They say it's infested with gators and has been left unchecked by Disney. Lawsuits are sure to follow....

A lawsuit is a certainty. However, due to the publicity, Disney will very quietly settle this. The last thing they want is for those parents to go on the national media and tell the world that Disney is raking them over the coals.

It wasn't a no "diving sign," it was a "no swimming" sign, which to me says "don't get in the water." As a new parent myself, I have the utmost empathy for what they are feeling right now, but they are by no means blameless victims. No way am I letting my kid wade in a murky Florida lake after sundown (or any time for that matter), ESPECIALLY when there are two swimming pools mere feet away. Sign or no sign.

Huh? So who's responsible for the child's saftey? WTF?

Exactly! I've used this sentence every time this subject comes up for the past week.

If they win a lawsuit against the property, expect to see a fence a 50 warning signs around every puddle in that state. Welcome to an age of zero common sense and accountability.

Wait, you reproduced? Who let this happen?

I think a more appropriate sign would have said "Stay out of the water" or get eaten by an alligator"
No Swimming to me means that I shouldn't swim, but what about just standing here? And I doubt that the 2yr old was actually swimming, so technically, he was following the sign.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I called a women driver a stupid fucking cunt and told he that she murdered her family because she killed her family in an avoidable accident in front of me. Her husband was being airlifted to a hospital only because he was an organ donor and her 3 kids were dead in various positions on the highway. I was soo pissed and worked up that I thought that a CHP officer was going to taser me. He got the fuck away from me when I stripped naked and started washing blood off in a cistern that they keep water in on the side of the road.

If that had happened the the gators would have won. You don't want the gators to win do you?
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.
