The boy was wading in water in Florida near signs that read No Swimming. I wouldn't say they are morons, but it doesn't show very good judgement on the parents part.

Bad deal, I've been all over Orlando, they have signs everywhere warning people , even by the hotel pools to look before you leap .

I stayed well back of any water, even rain puddles

From the video I have seen, this looks like where a beach is on the resort. Maybe I am not seeing the right footage. And there looks to be a playground 50-100 feet from the water.

I have been there many times, it is a beach with sand so people can lay out and the kids can play in the sand. I have never seen a gator in the lake, as they relocate them regularly.

No, what is really sad is that someone didn't have the sense to do the world a favor and suffocate you in your sleep when you were two years old.

They're from Nebraska. Gators are the farthest thing from their mind. I'm sure when they see "No Swimming" it means "don't swim because it's a decorative pool" or similar. It doesn't mean to them "hungry man eating animals in water".

I saw the same thing. Which, again, echoes to my earlier question (post #8). It certainly looks like you're able to run and play along the shore.

Edit: Ah, thanks Johnny (post #21).

I'm not from Florida and never seen a gator in the wild and I know better than to get in water that says no swimming in Florida or swamp lands type areas in general.

It's a really sad deal, but regardless of the reason why the signs were there they disobeyed the rules. For all we know it's filled with toxic chemicals that makes 3 eyed fish.

We do go to Florida a lot and we know better than to go into any body of water other than the ocean. That why most all backyard pools in Florida have lanai's around their pools. I blame the parents, straight up. That toddler can't read and it is up to the parents to keep the kid safe. If the sign reads "No Swimming" then you go to any of the dozens of pools that you can swim in at that Disney park...

Such a tragic series of events that led to an unimaginable conclusion. 2-year-old wading just at the edge of the water (not swimming around in the lagoon) just off a beach that's inherently designed for guests to play on, 4-year-old sister 30 feet away in a playpen, mom and dad are who knows how far away. Dad just close enough to try to grab the baby only to lose his grip in the fight with the crocodile, but so many more factors present.

It's just an incomprehensibly sad situation for everyone involved. I don't 100% blame the parents, and I don't 100% blame the hotel. Either way, my thoughts are with the family at this time. Those parents will be beating themselves up forever over this, and as a parent of a toddler, I can't imagine what they're going through right now.

Shit, I won't even go in the ocean in Florida, I know what cruises those waters.

You're right, it's 100% on the parents. I went scuba diving in one of the springs out in florida. I researched the shit out of gator behavior and armed myself with a REALLY sharp knife. I wasn't about to be a scooby snack.

                                Body recovered:
...The body was "completely intact," Sheriff Jerry Demings told reporters. He estimated that it was in water roughly six feet deep, 10-15 yards from the edge of the lagoon where the child had been wading Tuesday night.
                                ...
Dive teams on Wednesday afternoon recovered the body of a toddler snatched by an alligator in a Disney World lagoon, the Orange County sheriff confirmed.
