No, it would not. You need to ask for $50.00 an hour and the shop should be charging upwards of a hundo an hour ($120.00 an hour)for custom/restoration, if not more.

Mobile PDR is where it's at right now. If you're really good and do what I do give a guarantee of "you don't like you don't pay" you can make good money. I only do it in west tx once a year about three days before I can create days after the Rattlesnake Roundup. And about a week after deer season. There will be all D's western folks with plenty of money. And usually have PDR sized dents on their trucks which typically are brand-new one ton diesels.

75% of the dents I fix are usually right under tell lights. Happens when people get too eager to excited over the rattlesnake Roundup or Deer Hunting. And end up damaging their trucks while backing up to sharply with their trailers.

I don't know why, but I thought you were one of the resident painters here.

Painters are weird, and he is high up there in the weird rankings, but I think he just does a bunch of random bullshit for money.

I was a painter in the 90s. But then in 96 I went to fiesta and hung up my paint gun. I don't feel like spending a bunch of money on a paint setup that's only going to be used one time. But I really enjoyed painting.

Or a good option B is to if someone will let me borrow their paint booth, when the time comes.

Why don't you just ask what the salary range they're expecting to pay is? If you're looking for 50.00 and they're thinking 25.00, you both could avoid a lot of wasted time/energy...

Also, I'd want to ensure the shop management is up to par and well equipped with plenty of work to keep the position viable long term.

                    Good Luck

salary for sure if you can get it.

the restore/custom side is a bit different animal compared to collision. you may like it if you are kept busy. a lot of those shops still take in insurance work to fill the voids.

make sure your name is still in the hats of paint reps when you need to leave.

I understand, but there is no way in hell I would leave my current job for $25. He would definitely come really close to the $50 mark.

My friend owns a restoration and custom car shop. He builds +$100K custom cars, and he pays his painter and body guy $40/hr. This is in Colorado though.

Just be very careful, this industry is getting harder to make money every year and working with friends usually ends poorly. I personally have been thinking about getting out of the industry.
