a well tailored "cheap suit" will look 10x better than a cheap tailored nice suit...

Another good place I`ve found at getting great suits is checking out the thrift/Re-sale stores in the richer sides of town. I`ve managed to get a couple of $1000 Neiman Marcus suits within the last couple of years ( and paying to have them altered afterwards ) only be out $350 total for the both of them. That option is rather hit & miss and it sounds like you dont have that much time, just an idea for going forward.
