  • Fun weekend car

I've been looking for something fun to drive for the brief time that I'm not in my pickup. I've come to the conclusion that I need a E60 M5(V10/ SMG trans). I test drove one earlier(2008 w/ 72k) and like it. Just didn't like the color combo of the one I drove.

Everything seemed to work fine, the only question I had was regarding the transmission. It seemed to bang each gear pretty hard. Hard enough for me to question if it was normal. Also when I first started driving, it felt like the parking brake was still engaged although it wasn't. After a few minutes, the dragging feeling subsided.

The other(distant) candidates are a CTS-V or a G8. Kinda need the more-door to get the kiddo in and out. Looked at an M3 too, but it felt cramped to me.

Anyone own one or have extended experience driving one?

    Thanks in advance.

    How about a Chevelle!

I dig the CTS coupes and have almost pulled the trigger on a couple of them. Even the six cylinder was fun to drive but the V would be a blast. Personally I would stay away from a used Bimmer. I have eyeballed them every year also but the long term reviews and repair costs keep me away.
    Whos your Daddy?

Have you considered the Chevy SS Sedan?

i do not know your budget, but i would go with the cts over the g8. reason being parts, more so body parts if there is a accident, will soon be an issue if not already with the pontiac.

i want to drive the chevrolet ss, still an ls3 with magnetic ride suspension and warranty. i am somewhat trying to talk my wife into considering one.

I know I need to finish my main car... but I need instant gratification!

I'm not too scared of long term maintenance, my boss and I have done a lot of work on E31s. Through that I've got a good feeling of how they come apart or go together.

I've been looking for a while but talked myself out of it every time.

Looked at a new one at the dealership on Sunday. For a part time car, it may be higher than what I want to spend. I don't see many used ones around.

Check out the Challengers.. They're a great road car, and rather fun to drive.

I love the m5s. That shift is normal , it's almost brutal. My buddy, who's a huge m5 fan and owned a few said "that engine and tranny would be very scary to own from a cost standpoint at any later stage in its life".

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

CTS V from the choices listed

I had a 04 GTO and it had the best interior for any GM car I've been in at the time, but the suspension was total garbage. The G8 and Chevy SS use esentially the same suspenion so I would personally stay away from them. Plus the G8 interior was a step down from the GTO imo.

I would also avoid the BMW cause Fuck the cost to fix anything that may go wrong on a German car if you don't own your own shop.

I didn't mind the suspension on my 05 GTO. Wouldn't hook at all, but it did awesome burnouts.

BMW MINOR engine repairs are not too bad. MAJOR engine repairs are similar to the down payment on a home. Manual transmissions are fine, SMG's are NOT serviceable and you must buy an entire trans from BMW. That's right, even for a clutch so I have been told.

Just walk away from anything after an e36.

                          Same goes for Merc's....AVOID!

ATS-V's are sweet l, kinda small especially in the back seat (3 series size). Get a used Golf R... The Mk7s are running mid 11's with a tune and downpipe.
