  • Credit card skimmers at gas pumps

Thieves are getting more sophisticated, patching in the skimmers by bridging the data cable inside. The news story says the safest way to avoid being a victim, aside from paying cash, is to use your card as a credit card and not a debit card, so they can't get your pin. Not sure how accurate it all is, but thought I'd share in case it helps anyone avoid the headache of a drained account.

Ronald Reagan:"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

Homer: "Bart...there's 2 things I know about women. Never give them nicknames like "jumbo" or "boxcar" and always keep receipts...it makes you look like a business man."

My level for care about this is pretty low as my bank covers it. I had by debit card number stolen last summer ( i'm pretty sure I know which ATM it was too ) and they used about $800 worth of my money before it blocked them ( $650 at barnes and noble, gas money than like $60 at burger king no joke lol ), and I got it all back within a day or so of reporting it. The people that use it were back out in California.

Had it happen to me last year in the metroplex. My bank caught the first or second fradulant charge, called me, sent me a new debit card , and refunded the transaction. USAA is pretty good on that stuff. Only thing they were not able to do is figure out where it was the number got stolen from.
I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.

I had mine stolen around the same time. I had charges from California and east Dallas show up. They got around $450 before my bank locked it. They called me and we went over the charges for the last 7 days. They had the money back in my account in under an hour after the call.

I don't even use my debit card anymore if it can be avoided. Credit card for everything, and it gets paid off every payday.

          Fuck'em.

As a touch of irony, I had mine stolen here in California, and the charges were from Florida, be better if they were from Texas.

Anywho, the bank did cover it, but it's still a hassle getting the card cut off and replaced.

Exactly! Plus you can rack up the rewards with the right card. I filled the truck up and later that night when I logged into the Discover website to pay it back off I noticed I had more than enough in rewards to pay for it..... two clicks and a free tank of gas resulted.

                  I couldn`t say any better..... Fuck`em

as said. no more bank/debit card. credit card only for daily purchases.

much easier to dispute with discover or any credit card company than the bank. ten minute phone call versus getting to a branch to fill out affidavits.
