Funny you mention that....I work as a signal maintainer for a railroad under contract by BNSF...and I am salaried. 90% of the time...my workday can be done in 3-4 hours if there are no trouble calls and things go smoothly...its a pretty laid back job as long as I do my job. In contrast...when the weather gets stormy or the random drunk driver (there's lots of them in Albuquerque) leaves the bar and plows over a signal mast at a crossing...that nice calm 4-5 hour day can suddenly turn into a 14 hour day of running like a chicken with its head cut off. On those rare weekends that I'm on call...or when a storm hits and I end up taking 3-4 or even 5 trouble calls in one night and get no sleep...I REALLY wish I got paid overtime. I did the same job 5 yrs ago in Austin TX for a different company and was paid hourly with overtime....and I DID make CHOO$$$$CHOO$$$$!!!!!! money!!!!
Just another day on dfwmu$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ang$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.
So this act applies to an hourly employee who works primarily in the IT field with a specialized trait who is paid on a job to job basis, stating basically their subcontracted job must be completed hourly and not paid by completion of the job.
Would anyone on this site actually benefit from this act. Seems like a fluff piece to stick in Obama cap that sounds good but really means nothing

No the "Exempt" status applies to a LOT of people. If you're referencing my post above I only posted what applied to me as IT. I could've sworn there was a page at one time that was a long read, but essentially it seemed like it was really up to the employer to make that call.

Exempt status applies to me as well, any overtime hours worked are to be taken as comp time afterward. I'd really rather have the time anyway instead of the extra $$.
My wife is salaried and required to be in her clinic for 40 hours a week PLUS whatever shifts that she does not have employees to cover, she has to cover down. So she typically works 50-55 hours a week. No comp time offered for extra hours but they damn sure take away from her PTO balance if she takes off early from her 40. So the company deliberately lets her clinic run with fewer employees (after someone transfers or quits) because with her covering that shift they save the money.
I'm sure that if the company she works for was forced to pay her for hours worked past 40 then she would get screwed over another way.
I am paid based on a 2080 hrs worked salary. Any hours over 40 hrs for me is backwards. My work week is assigned at 70 hours. My first 40 hours are actually paid at my hourly wage (salary divided by 2080) and multiplied by 1.45 for a 45% uplift and my remaining 30 hours are paid at straight time based on my salary's hourly wage.
On an hour per hour basis? Do you actually track it? (that's how it sounds)
It's not tracked exactly hour by hour. For instance if I am required to work 4 or more hours on a Saturday or weekday that's generally good for a full day off, but an hour or two overtime worked on a weekday (which rarely happens) is not comped.
