Yeah man the fun starts tomorrow. I was at reception for New Years that sucked so bad cause we couldn't get anything done cause everyone was gone for the Holliday. I think I was in reception for over a week closer to two. Then got crammed into a cattle truck and dropped off at our unit. 434th 1/40 FA Echo group first platoon hell raisers. Enjoy it man you're about to have a lot of fun. And make some great friends.

Reception has been a fucking beating. Just boring as shit. The ruck March to Sand Hill to start basic is tomorrow. All is well, ready to start.

Some kick locked his knees in formation and fucked his world up

It's different at every base and changes every time there is someone new in charge. Benning is going to be the toughest of the bunch though but you are right it's a whole different Army now. Recruits get stress cards, they can whip one out and the DIs are supposed to stop picking on them. While 10 years ago you'd get smacked in the face with the bill of their cap.

Yeah, he knows how to take shit. I know that the few times I was there when he was over helping at Christians, he was given the shittiest work and took it like a man. He also got pretty good at gracefully taking verbal abuse. And Christian yells just as much as any DS I ever encountered in the Army!

As long as he keeps his mouth shut, I think he can hack the mental aspect, which is probably 80% of it IMO. And I know he has been working really hard on the physical side. He's always been a mature kid for his age, and that will take him a long way too.

As long as there are no injuries (knock on wood), I think he will get his tab.

Congratulations! Looking back I really wished I would have enlisted. I just was not mature enough to look forward that far. I see so many opportunities that it could have opened for me but was looking for "right now" instead.

Thanks for your service and good luck! If you need anything, post up and I am sure some of us can help.

He'll probably get a phone call once assigned to a unit but then it'll be 3+ weeks before anyone hears anything and that would be only if he writes someone. They'll get their phones for a few minutes a week after the 6-7 weeks.

Since he's doing OSUT (one station unit training) his AIT starts right after basic with the same instructors. So his basic is really more like 14 weeks. Then off to Ranger school!
