Free Play Arcade in Richardson

Has anyone here checked this place out? It might be cool to play some of the old games from back in the day.

Free Play Arcade opened in December in a Richardson strip mall. You pay $10 at the door, put on a paper bracelet, and play unlimited arcade games for the rest of the night. No tokens, no quarters, no “game over.” The bar offers a rotating variety of beers in a comfortable space, but the 60-plus arcade games are the main attraction. Add an infinite loop of ’80s pop hits, and you’ve got a throwback paradise.

I live pretty close and have been a few times. They have a great beer selection and plenty of games to keep you busy. It gets packed on the weekends but I've always been able to find an open game. It's fun to go with a friend or two for multiplayer games.

If Barcadia could keep their shit working, I'd go there more. I like the old simple games, newer games are too complex and frighten me.

It's fun to go with a friend or two for multiplayer games.

Definitely more fun with a group, unless you're a die hard fan of some of the older games. Then there's always Melones after you're done!

Anyways, I'm not even sure what kind of games still get made in to arcade games. Seems like a cool outing to try out for sure though.

When the ps2/xbox released (maybe even a little before), the decline in arcade games hit. When you started seeing games like Soul Claibur hit dreamcast, and the graphics were better on dreamcast, AND you had online play, you knew the days of the arcade having the top-tier games were done.

Arcades are still big shit in japan, and I like what they've done with the fighting games in particular. Instead of both people sitting on the same side, they sit in front of two different screens on opposite sides. Street Fighter 5 is still made in to an arcade game.

It's not far from me. I've checked it out after picking up some cheap tools at harbor freight. Looks like all older games but it might be fun

I haven't been since it was Applebees. What a shithole that was, but back in high school it was the bees knees!

There is an interesting group of people who go there, but I had a good time when we went. Definitely will go back in the future.
