IDK, musicians have always been a little different than most 'celebrities' in my mind, as they really do provide the soundtrack to our lives. It's not like he was a reality star or WWE wrestler or something. Nobody is suggesting that the nation should hold a moment of silence or anything, but the news has been reporting on celebrities, particularly their deaths, for many decades.

Besides, the news just broke a couple of hours ago. Of course it's going to be all over.

My goodness, George. I'm sure there are plenty of families whose sons/daughters that are K.I.A receive plenty of attention when they die. As a matter of fact when a member here or N.O.K are notified and it is made public (here) we give them the proper attention in our Memorial thread or a thread is started, calm down there Francis...

PS I'm not mourning Prince's death either, but his music was very influential during my wife and I's dating scene time, so his music holds a small part of our memory.

It's unfortunate for his loved ones, but I was never counted among his fans. His music, style and all never appealed to me.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

from the media reaction in the Twin Cities, you would think that the entire world should shut down, Personally.... so what. Hag made a far larger contribution, and got less fanfare.

Eh, I dig the shit out of Merle, even more so than Prince, but I think your statement is inaccurate.

My first memory - In '83 my mom bought a brand new red Vette. Was obligatory to have "Little Red Corvette" 8 track.
Saw him at the convention center in 2000. My buddy, the owner of that blue Z06 I posted for sale, was taking a girl to see him and didn't want to go alone so he bought four tickets and bribed me and my old lady to go. One of the most memorable concerts I have been too, dude put on a killer show!

Prince's impact on popular culture is far greater than Haggard's IMO, and I'm a HUGE Haggard fan...

I'm not a Prince "fan" by any stretch, but he was a pioneer. He wrote a lot of songs you don't realize he wrote. But... the same can be said for the Hag.

Sleeping on Prince's impact on music is a worm move IMO

You're not in the Twin Cities right now. You have no point of reference on my statement.

Were you in Merle's hometown when he passed?

He was very visible in the Twin Cities, and frequently did things to benefit the community. Back in 2006, I was at First Avenue with some friends watching a fairly well know local act play. In between sets, the manager had a word with the band, and when they came back, they said that a guest wanted to jam with them for a few songs. So, Prince comes up, does three songs with them and then just leaves. He came and went without any hoopla or fuss. I had liked him before, buit that low-key cool gesture cemented him with me.

Maybe the part he contended was inaccurate was the contributions of Prince vs Merle?

Nope. Never claimed I was. To watch the local media, this is Elvis, Mother Theresa & Ronald Reagan all in one.
