Texas man in tactical gear being sought in murder at Creekside Church of Christ

A fitness trainer and mother of three was murdered in a Dallas-area church Monday morning by a man wearing SWAT gear, police said.

Boot camp-style exercise class participants who showed up at the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, Tex., around 5 a.m. found their instructor Terri (Missy) Bevers, 45, dead, according to the Midlothian Police Department.

Police Chief Carl Smith said a man wearing what looked like a tactical helmet, gloves and a heavy vest with "POLICE" written on it could be seen in security camera footage from the E. U.S. Highway 287 church just before Bevers arrived. The department released the 4 a.m. footage Monday afternoon, though Smith said no cameras captured the attack.

Fitness trainer Terri (Missy) Bevers, 45, was killed early Monday just before her boot-camp style class, police said.
The boot camp class, called "Camp Gladiator," usually takes place outdoors, but rain in the area forced the class inside Monday. Investigators found a lot of broken glass in the church, though nothing seemed to be missing.

“We are exploring all possibilities," Smith said at an afternoon news conference. "It’s just an odd, random situation that they would happen to come into a building that’s being burglarized on a Monday morning. But all scenarios are on the table right now.”

The Dallas County medical examiner will rule on Bevers’ official cause of death. But Midlothian police Capt. John Spann said that she had suffered “obvious trauma.” Members of the community about 25 miles southwest of Dallas planned a candlelight vigil Monday night for Bevers, who lived in nearby Red Oak, WFAA-TV reported.

"If it's raining, we're still training," said an image posted Sunday on Bevers' apparent Facebook page. "NO EXCUSES....You are Gladiators!"

Police said a man dressed in what looks like SWAT team gear broke into the church early Monday. The Midlothian Police Department released these images of the suspect.
Other photos showed her husband and three daughters ages 8, 13 and 15, along with several posts about the Texas Rangers baseball team.

"Having an Impact on Others and Helping Others Reach Their Fitness & Health Goals is my 'PASSION!'" the profile says.

Bevers' husband was out of town Monday morning and traveled home after hearing what happened, according to the police department.

"We want to offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim," Chief Smith said, noting the murder investigation marks his department's first one in nearly a decade. "This is a tragic event for all involved, including our community."

Where do you, as a suburban husband locate and hire a contract killer? I can not remember that last time I saw an ad for one.

It happens a lot more often than you probably realize. They locate a desperate and somewhat nutty woman, start an affair, convince her that they are in love and the only thing standing in the way of forever happiness is the dreaded existing wife....but she has to die b/c of financial issues or some other bs reason that for whatever reason makes more sense than divorce. The plan is to setup his own alibi and frame the nut for it.

You check the husbands credit cards to see what establishments he frequents, most likely a bar where The husband complains about wife, and ask the staff to see who he has been hanging out with at the bar. It's probably a bar buddy he paid to do the kill who obviously isn't very smart and a chronic drunk. Probably scoped out the church from husbands poor intel figuring there were no cameras and if anyone saw him they would figure he was part of the police or there for the self defense training. He hides behind the entrance and clobbers her after she walks in.

My vote is that the husband has something to do with it. His demeanor is way off for someone who just lost his wife (the mother of his children) in such an unexpected and tragic way, and the out-of-state alibi makes it that much more suspicious to me.

The still shots that you posted above, one on the left also seems to stand like a woman. The cops are going to be all over this one...I'll bet they have someone identified within a week or less.
