  • Carfax vs Autocheck

The wife and I are in the market for a new used car. We found one we like and asked if they could provide a Carfax. They said that they use Autocheck instead. Has anyone else ever heard or used Autocheck? Does it provide the same info as a Carfax? I was not sure if info was made available somewhere and all of these agencies would go get the info or if they only got the info if someone gave it to them allowing for one agency to have more info on a car than another.

Is there anyone that would mind running a carfax for me?

Autocheck is good, too. Most insurance agencies will report to both. It's not a fail safe, though. When I sold my jeep in October, it had a clean carfax and autocheck, even though it was in a front and rear collision back in July, so I had to disclose the damage myself.

If you don't have an eye for spotting body work, take it to someone you know and have them look it over.

Dealers love Carfax, and use Autocheck to check a car they want to know all the info on.

Spotting body work yourself is the best way.

Autocheck showed an accident on our SS that carfax didn't show. Wish I'd realized it sooner, could have gotten the buy back warranty from Carfax

Both work pretty well. Sometimes one will have an entry the other missed. Get both if possible.

When I worked for an auto wholesaler, I looked at soooooooo many cars that had clean autocheck and carfax, but had telltale signs of body work. You never know when things don't get reported, or if the damage was repaired out of pocket by a dealership, wholesaler, or by the owner. Agency reports are GREAT for making sure the title is clean, but beyond that, you just can't be 100% sure of where a vehicle has been.
