I need some minor fab work

I just lowered my truck and I need to install a helper bag kit out back.

The "Slam Air" kit is made for lowered trucks but has a reduced capacity. I'd like to find someone local that can set up a lower mount like the picture below so I can mount a higher capacity setup on my truck.

Who on the forum does this sort of fab work? All I need is the lower mount welded to the axle tube... I'll do the rest.

That's how the Slam Air kit works. It rests on top of the leaf spring and mounts to the side of the frame. Now that you mention it, I could use one of the higher capacity kits and mount it similar to the slam air kit. I would just have to fab up a heavy enough L bracket to mount on the side of the frame for the top of the bag.

This might be as simple as an angle iron cut to length.

Belltech's 3/4 kit for the F150. I set the front for 3" drop and it dropped 3.25" and the back dropped 5" exactly.

I've been looking around. Most of the kits are made to fit between the top of the axle tube and the bottom of the frame. I'm looking at the various kits to see which one will work with the least amount of fab work. There's no way to fit a bag between my frame and axle now. It has to be offset in one direction, either to the side of the frame or in front of/behind the axle tube.

Or I go with the Slam Air kit and call it a day. I just worry about reduced capacity. I'm not hauling a camper or anything. The heaviest load I'll pull will be around 7k pounds and that won't be often.

I have a 2 drop in the rear currently and have been running the slam air kit for 5 years pulled a 22ft steel trailer with 55hp awd Kubota tractor with brush hog no problem bags were aired up to 75psi each.

Thanks for the info. I've been reading threads on F150Forum in the Lowered Trucks subforum, trying to find real-world experience. I've got a 20' flatbed and will occasionally haul a Kubota tractor with a front end loader and box blade on back.

How's the ride quality with the 3-5 I'm looking at doing one this summer

The kit I bought is the 3/4, though it dropped the rear by 5 inches. The 3/4 kit is different from the 3/5 kit. The 5" kit has a different rear shackle (4" kit retains the OEM shackle) and requires a transmission spacer to get the driveline back in line. The 4" kit is an easier install and you can see the result on my truck. I honestly don't think I could run the 5" kit without serious tire-to-fender issues out back.

To answer your question, the ride quality isn't noticeably affected so far. I just installed the kit over the weekend and I've only driven the truck a few times since installing it, but I can't tell any real difference in ride quality. The rear suspension isn't seriously altered, the leaf just gets flipped under the axle. The front is hardly changed - the spring is compressed more and a shorted shock is installed. No mounting points are modified.

I am going to order a rear sway bar. Belltech has them on sale and I figure body roll reduction is a good thing, both for handling and reducing the chances of tire-to-fender contact.

It started life covered in chrome. It's a Platinum with the max-tow package. I removed all chrome, replaced the front end with Harley components and removed the F150 fender badges. Lots of little holes to weld and repaint...



Does anybody want to buy a set of OEM F150 Platinum wheels?
