Woman spends weekend trapped in restroom of local library

WACO, Texas (KWTX) A woman was rescued Monday morning from the restroom at the West Waco library where she had been trapped there since Saturday evening.

Paramedics were sent at around 7 a.m. Monday to the library at 5301 Bosque Boulevard, after library employees found the woman inside the restroom.

Larry Holze, spokesman for the City of Waco, said the woman was at the library Saturday evening went to the restroom just before closing time.

She somehow got stuck inside on of the stalls and was unable to get out.

She did not have a cellphone and was unable to call for help.

“We usually check those things but this time we did not,” Holze said.

When the building was secured, she was locked inside.

She was not injured.

How do you get locked in a public bathroom? The stalls don't have keyed locks and it isn't like you can't crawl over or under the door. The door to the bathrooms usually don't have locks unless it was a single person restroom, and then they unlock via the inside. Now I can see getting locked inside the building. The last place I worked had doors where all the interior locks were keyed and they never checked the building to see if everyone was out before locking up so it was possible to get locked in there, especially in the small entryway we had. I can see getting locked inside the building if they were stupid enough to not have proper fire exits, but the bathroom seems to require a special kind of stupidity to be locked in unless you are 4 years old.

when you are big, the stall acts like a reed valve. You can check in, but you can never leave. It's like Hotel California, but less glamorous.
