Yeah I live in Crowley and have U-Verse. I want to get rid of it as somehow the monthly bill is up to 170 a month for TV and internet. I get a ton of Dish Network and Direct TV flyers and think about switching, but keep thinking there is always a trick to get you in, then jack the price up after a few months....

If you have a contract and can not get out of Verizon, bundle Phone and Internet for like $70 bucks (drop to 25/25 speeds), or call and see if they offer a discount so you don't cancel. You only have a few choices on who services your area, so maybe FIOS is the best option.

FiOS most likely is the best option in your area, Paul.
my FIOS contact is up this month, so no issue getting out of contract. where would I get an antenna for regular tv? and im dumb, what are the options for "streaming"?? im not really sure what that means. we currently have Netflix and apple tv. in looking around, FIOS really seems to be the best option in the 75010 zip. I'm not sure if I can get internet and tv from 2 different vendors and it not cost almost as much with what im paying FIOS. I may come crawling back.... we aren't home a lot, but on the odd off day if Jr wants to veg out on the couch and watch tv I like to afford him that option.

          Suck it!
I do this with my Uncles uverse password for HBOGO. I just realized I could probably do that with the ESPN app too.

We cut our uverse tv about 6 months ago. We still have uverse internet(18meg) and phone for $90. We have to have the phone for work.

Paul, you don't need a lot of speed for what you do. 18 meg is enough for my wife to work, streaming Netflix and random browsing on the internet all at the same time. Never see an issue.

Can you watch the rangers games through the Fox sports app?

can you expand on that? Are you saying if I ordered MLB.com, I wouldn't get to see Rangers games? It only works for teams outside my region?

                god bless.

I got my antenna off of Amazon. It's their branded antenna. This allows you to watch the local channels 4,5,8,11,13,21,33, etc.

Everything else we watch, we stream. Mel has subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu. I have Amazon Prime. We honestly don't use any of those that much though. Most of what we watch is via Kodi, which is free.

I have a buddy that had to get some IP reconfigurer or something that showed he was "somewhere else" to get the local feeds.

Me, I love my Verizon cable. I could live without it, but I don't want to.

paul take this advise.. we also cut the cord and got a mohu leaf antenna off amazon (I live fairly close to you and it picks up all the locals and pic is great) I also have Netflix, hulu, and amazon prime but find myself using a firestick with kodi/specto more than the others these days.. we cut the cord on 12/31 and don't miss it at all

Then we better be able to see the Rangers on the Fox Sports app. If not, I am going to go nuts.

I certainly am. I had called Verizon about 6 months ago to remove some featurs as my bill was around $260 (Quantum HD, 50/50, phone).

Well, took care of business but they made me verbally commit to a 2 year contact on the phone which at the time, I had no problem with. Well, with this sell off, I am not sure I want to stay especially with some of the options these guys have mentioned. Thinking that I might be able to break contract due to the sell off but probably not ($10 a month fee for all remaining months $160).

I have Netflix, Hulu, Firestick (not jail broken) and I still only watch two channels and its only when an old James Bond is on or the Discovery Science channel. My wife however, well...our DVR is full.

I am paying $230ish right now, really just want to cut back to Internet but not sure what the hell these other services actually provide, though my lazy ass could just do a Google search I suppose.

As far as Kodi goes, you can google or Youtube it. I originally started using Kodi on a fire stick. I am since having issues with it. The memory on the firestick is full, and crashes every time I try to load it. If you go this route, I'd recommend something with a little more memory space. Like the FireTV. I use a FireTV in our bedroom, Firesticks in the kid's rooms, and will replace the Firestick in our living room with a FireTV next time they are on sale.

There are also other companies that make streaming boxes, in the $250+ price range. I do not see any benefit whatsoever to those for the premium they charge.

Kodi isn't as user friendly as say Netflix, or Hulu. The menus are more clunky and you have to learn where to find things. But it has far more content. I haven't run across a movie or show yet that I haven't been able to find on there. They also have new movies that are still in theatres. Those are a little wonky at times though. For the first couple weeks it will be shit quality, someone recorded using a handheld camcorder in the theatre. After about 2 weeks though, it gets replaced with a digital version or a screener, etc.
