cancelling FIOS....

    cancelling FIOS....

    so fios is running me $170/month for "fios tv extreme HD" Fios Internet Speeds Up to 50 Mbps/50 Mbps, and a home phone that we dont even have plugged into the wall. my question is do i need internet @ 50mbps for this site, youtube, and facebook?

    i would consider keeping it if it wasnt so expensive. we have netflix already. who can i go to for internet service only?? and maybe tv?

    Your other internet options will partly depend on where you're living. Here in Denton, I have the option of getting Charter. You don't have to bundle. I don't bundle. I've got 75/75 for $80 a month.

    BTW, Verizon sold FIOS off to Frontier Communications. The switch over takes place April 1st and it's not a fools joke.

      I pay 39 dollars a month for Xfinity (Comcast) 25mbps internet (currently unlimited data) and it seems pretty adequate for my uses.

        Just keep FIOS internet only, get an antenna and watch free TV and stream everything else. We have been cable free for about a year, do not miss it at all.

        If you have a contract and can not get out of Verizon, bundle Phone and Internet for like $70 bucks (drop to 25/25 speeds), or call and see if they offer a discount so you don't cancel. You only have a few choices on who services your area, so maybe FIOS is the best option.

              Good luck, it is probably encrypted and not possible to Xfer to another device. I had that issue with DirecTv a few years ago.

                            Seems like our dvr will let us save stuff to a flash drive.. I know we can download stuff from it to our devises. It's dish though.

                            Paul.. If you're just surfing and on YouTube you can easily get by with under 10mbs, imo. When the faster speeds matter is where you are streaming HD movies and shit. We averaged about 5mbs up until about a year ago and it did what you want for 4 of us, no problem. We only upgraded because we started streaming HD TV pretty regularly while the kids were gaming and such (netflix, amazon, dish on demand, etc).

                              To hell with TV...I've gone without it my whole life and don't need it now.
