I totally get that, I'm just saying you're post with the descriptor "unicorn balls" made it seem like the tailgate fairy was taking them all away and hoarding them, not that you couldn't find one "you were willing to pay for."

I, too, wouldn't pay that much for one. You'd see one of those web gates or steel bar tail gates on my truck before i was spending that on a brand new, no hardware, unpainted one.

The steel bar ones run 450 to 750 plus shipping and the web ones require me to hold them in place while I drill holes. I'm not coordinated enough though I did buy one and THEN learned I can't hold it in place to mark the position and drill at the same time. It winds up cockeyed.

Put a hose clamp on the end of the tailgate that lifts up and that will keep them from taking it...

Great idea, unless they have a screwdriver. However that's probably enough to deter them the first time.

I roll It around the back so you cant get it with a dime or something easy.

Even zip ties work as a deterrent, and if you have your tailgate down, it wont be able to come off if you hit a bump.

I've always put mine on the with screw facing down so it requires them to have a long screwdriver and crawl underneath the truck. Luckily the new 16 F150 I got has a locking tailgate that locks with the doors.

He came out and picked up the tailgate today. It was touch and go for a while, but I am still alive. Seriously though, he is awesome. Has some great stories. Was great to meet him.

Most are opportunist. They don't always go out looking for shit to steal, but will steal something if it looks easy / quick.

I rolled out to JC's house today and picked up the tailgate.

On an unrelated note, JC has gone missing but he wishes you all well.
