I wish the LEO would file a civil suit against the kid's family for about 5 million stating that the perp created undue stress and poor judgement and has now led to him facing criminal charges, loss of job, etc.

Even if he won, he'd never get a cent, but maybe it would put a stop to some of the nonsense where someone else is always at fault. I subscribe to play stupid games...

That would be great! Even if just a symbolic act, it would set a precedent.

            Someone is already trying it:
Chicago Police Officer Robert Rialmo is suing the estate of Quintonio LeGrier, arguing that the 19-year-old assaulted him and caused him to suffer trauma.

The penal code says nothing at all about it being a defense to prosecution.

Wrong. Texas Penal Code Chapter 9, specifically Section 9.02 does, which applies to Section 9.42 that follows.

Moot point for me, as I would not use deadly force simply to protect property before or during the nighttime, unless I perceived a threat to my life or the lives of others. Human life to me, even that of a wanna-be hood rat, is more valuable than property. Got to love the internet badasses though who claim they would do so, from behind the trigger of a keyboard.

Burglary suspect admits to stealing SUV seats but questions officer's use of deadly force.

DALLAS — A Texas teen shot by an off-duty police officer admits he and his friend were stealing third-row seats out of the back of an SUV on Sunday, but he doesn't understand why the officer used deadly force over stolen property.

Whereas I would defend my property from theft. If you try to take my property you have placed a value on your life below that of the thing you are taking. You are in essence telling me "What I am taking is worth more than what my life is so I am risking my life to take it because I understand risk versus reward." As I believe most people to be adults and capable of making informed decisions, I will believe a thief to have come to this conclusion and accept their decision.

What I won't do is chase someone down and open fire on a highway after slamming into them with my car.

Nothing wrong with that way of thinking either.
