      If there was no threat to his life. If the kid had a weapon, dark doesn't matter. Of course giving chase like that isn't a great idea. I think the cop is probably fucked, which sucks because a thief is dead and dead criminals are good criminals in my opinion. A lot of IFs in that scenario. I do not like that the law says certain actions are ok only if it is night, that is a really stupid reason to allow or prevent anything. Sounds like the cop is fucked, which I dont like given the outcome of the criminal, but maybe there are more details that havent been released yet.

        I took that as meaning Boosted used to steal cars when he was younger.
        Somehow that makes it ok for others? I don't know.

          At 16 everyone does dumb shit. Does he deserve to die? No. But that's the risk you take doing dumb shit. The possibility probably didn't even cross the kids mind that he might get killed. He fucked up and paid the ultimate price. If he was wearing skinny jeans then he definitely deserved to be shot!

              I think he's referring to the defense to prosecution that states something the effect "it's a defense to prosecution to use leathal force to stop criminal mischief at night

                That was why I mentioned that one of the unknowns so far is: did the alleged thieves produce a weapon? If he or his compadre did, and especially if there were any witnesses that would testify to that, the officers defense for his actions is much stronger. The fact that the deceased is a 16 year old still is likely to work against him before a grand jury.

                As of now, the crime was committed before dark without any known aggravating circumstances by the perps, and the use of deadly force by the officer will not likely be found justified if no more evidence comes to light.

                  Sympathy = zero.
                  If you are a thief, you deserve what you get. If he wasn't a thief, he'd still be alive and continuing to get what must have been a poor upbringing.
                  The off-duty officer will probably get a giant judicial sodomizing. At best, he was on the ragged edge of legality.

                    First off, fuck those thieving ass hood rats. And I agree with Scott, they are going to drag that Dart cop through the ringer...

                    I went outside to grab my bluetoof from my car last night, as the garage door is opening I hear a girl asks me if I have seen a black cat. It was dark, it was after midnight and it startled the hell out of me. Of course I had my G-rod and I pulled it out of the holster real quiet and I stayed behind my 5.0 in the garage as I spoke to her, she seemed legit but it looked pretty sketchy as I later found out my wifes car was unlocked, nothing was missing or rummaged through, but then I thought if I had busted her checking unlocked car doors.

                      The red Challenger looked pretty fucked up. It makes sense that those assholes were using it as a weapon to keep the cop from chasing them.

                      I'm not convinced one way or the other, yet. I'd have to see some security footage to make up my mind.

                        My main problem with this is that if I did what this off duty cop did I would be in jail. But he is a cop and so there is a good chance he will get off easy as happens so often. Whether or not I agree with the law, if you are going to hold anyone accountable under it hold ALL accountable. If they let him off and in 6 months throw a civilian in jail for the same thng you know several of us will be pissed. So while I don't really bash the guy for doing what he did, part of me says throw him in jail because I know a civilian would be thrown in there too.

                          Oddly enough, I've never been shot.....

                              This. All of this right here. Either we're all equal before the law or we're not and if we're not, then the constitution needs to be altered.

                                I believe that I heard/read that he was aware of past thievery going on in the complex that he lives in, sometimes management gives LEO's a discount on rent if they patrol the parking lot a few hours a night, if thats the case then he will probably get off the charges and even so, I doubt that they will charge him, but he may face something for getting into a chase in his personal vehicle and spinning the guy out and then firing a weapon in rush hour traffic.
