  • Propane refills

Does anyone go and get their propane tanks refilled or do you usually just swap them out? I think my local Kroger does a swap for like $17.99 so getting it re-filled only saves a few bucks. From what I gather though, when you do a tank swap, you usually don't get a completely full tank.

I usually switch out tanks, but if I get one that has a crap valve, I swear I'll stop doing that and refill the next one I get that is good! I have 2 tanks, in case I run out of gas mid-cooking. That sucks!

I get mine filled for free, but I'm screwing my propane guy.
He says that on a 20lb bottle, the label says they fill 15lbs, but trade tanks are usually even lighter than that.

Back in the years when I had a gas grill I bought a new bottle every other grill or so and had it refilled. That way I know that I have a good bottle, valve, nice paint, etc. I was just funny about it.

I used to get mine filled at northwest propane until the prices got out of hand. Now a 20# tank is $24.50 compared to a $17.99 swap at kroger.

I have mine filled at Sunbelt rentals. After the 8th or 10th one they give you a free refill. Propane is cheaper than any other places their too.

I always get mine refilled. That's how my parents did it when I was younger and as far as I can tell it seems to be cheaper.

I have a 100 pound tank with a long hose so I can leave it in once spot and still hook it up to either the grill, smoker or turkey fryer or heater in the garage which ever I'm using at the time. I just go have it topped off once a year.

I have mine filled at Godfrey Propane, in Arlington. I have my fifth wheel propane bottles filled there, so I just take my 4 bbq tanks up there when I have those filled. I pay less than an exchange, plus if some of my tanks aren't completely empty, they just charge you for how much they pump.

I swap tanks out. It's usually a lot more convenient.
