I moved to Albuquerque for the money...I have more experience than anyone in the department I work in other than the manager...but there is practically no company support, no training, and I'm really beginning to hate Albuquerque. If I were offered a similar paying or better paying job doing what I do in a better climate...I might jump ship.

My next position will be for experience, but will lead to me getting paid.

I'm content. I make a fair living, I could increase my pay significantly but my stress levels would increase dramatically and decrease time with kids.

I was willing to move out of my last company for a pay cut just to get experience somewhere else, and I was already making absolute shit. Luckily, I found a position in the company I wanted to work at a salary point that actually doubled my previous salary, but it was for a job I didn't want to do. A year later, and I'm moving into the position that I actually wanted to do in the first place, in the same company, for another healthy pay raise. I'm happy, now, but I'm sure I'll be looking for the next opportunity within the company in another year or so. I'm tired of changing companies, and if this company is good to me, I'll be good back to it.

I left my full time position at the end of January to be a stay at home dad, currently working on getting my own company off the ground, so definitely NOT for the money.

I've done the trade happiness for good money thing and for me at least, it isn't sustainable. Ridiculous hours and high stress left me hollow for whatever family time I could carve out. It's an old axiom, but the expression that "nobody laid on their death bed and wished they could spend more time at work" comes to mind.

I want to talk shit about this...buts its out of pure jealousy. I want both of those things.

Money. The obvious question is, if you won the lottery, would you still go to work?

I get paid pretty well for doing mind numbing work. It has it's up every now and then, but I find there's more "your there" days than "up" days. I've sorta resigned myself to the fact I traded a not-so-satisfying job for a good life style. Leave work at the door, sub-10 minute commute, good 401k matching and 3 weeks of vacation plus 12 holidays.

I'll agree with Blake, "nobody laid on their death bed and wished they could spend more time at work". I don't think I could ever do the hour-plus commute again as that just sucks SO much of your day away. It'd have to be stupid-amount of money.

I think there's very few people that have that 'find a job you love and you'll never work again' job.

The money, of course. It is the highest paying job I've had with a solid bonus potential. I earned ~$20K in bonus last year on top of my base salary.

With that said, I love my job. Yes it can be extremely stressful at times, but in the end, I find it extremely rewarding. The company I work for is TOP NOTCH and just changed over to an ESOP making us all part owners of the company, so to speak. I just can't say enough good things about the company.

Is my job stable, nope, If the housing market were to take a sharp down turn, my job is in jeopardy. It is cliche but I build the American dream. At the end of a build, I am proud of the home that I turn over to the family that chose us as their builder. I know that the emphasis on quality and attention to detail that we put into our homes will serve them well as long as they are there.
