I fortunately work alot with Law Enforcement and am well protected, unfortunately that means I cannot carry as I also work and enter a building that houses a courthouse and by law I cannot carry open or concealed. It would get really annoying to unholster everytime I have to enter the building.

The confusion for many counties surrounds courts that are housed in multi-purpose buildings, for example, in the same building with the county clerk.
Paxton on Monday said if a building has other offices in addition to courts, those areas should not restrict open carry. His opinion came in response to an inquiry from Allison Palmer, district attorney for the 51st Judicial District, which includes Coke, Orion, Schleicher, Sterling and Tom Green counties.
"The Legislature has not clearly demarcated, or established, a precise boundary in a building or portion of a building at which handguns are prohibited or permitted," the opinion says. Since the Legislature did not provide better clarity on applying the law, it says, the ban on guns should only extend to courtrooms and offices essential to the operation of courts.
In a nonbinding opinion, the attorney general (Ken Paxton)settled last month on a narrower interpretation of the law — that the licensed carrying of handguns may only be barred inside courtrooms and related offices. Paxton’s opinion may have provided some flexibility by noting that local officials must determine which areas are “essential” to a court’s operation, but he also noted an “absence of clarity from the Legislature.”
In fact, some county buildings that have a court are changing their rules.
Grayson County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to change policy to allow county employees to concealed carry a gun on county property -- if they're licensed."Self-government won't work without self-discipline." - Paul Harvey

Individuals who observe violations must first file a complaint with the government that appears to be in violation. If the entity does not remove the sign within three (3) days, citizens may file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's Office to investigate the matter and enforce the law. If you believe a political subdivision is unlawfully posting 30.06 signs and you have already filed a complaint with that entity, you may call The Texas Attorney General's 30.06 Hotline at 1-844-584-3006, or fill out the form below:
