    Motherfucking THIS!!

We bought what we could afford at the time. Now that we split, I kept the house (for the time being anyways) and can afford it on my own. Had a split happened sooner, it would have fucked us both. I just got lucky I guess.

Exactly, when my Dad got married to my mom he made sure and paid off his car, boat and motorcycle. Just in-case things didn't work out nobody could take them lol. He never got divorced, but it's still funny.

Winner. I was wondering how far down I'd have to go until I saw this. You purchase based on your income, other bills you have, future financial plans, and then on the value of the property (i.e. is it a deal?).

Wise men! I split with my ex that I bought my house with about 3 years after we purchased. I refi'd to get her name off the mortgage and ended up with a much better rate and lower payment. She was all bitter that I kept the house but she wouldn't have been able to afford it by herself anyway.

I bought my first house at 23 and paid 160k. Since it was my first house I was scared of the payment, but after 6 months I wished I would have went alot higher on the price because I don't even miss the payment. Now that I'm married with in the next year we will probably sale this house and are looking into the 250k to 300k range on the next house.

I did something a bit different,

I searched exclusively for foreclosed homes. We found the house we have in Grand Prairie (Forum Estates, neighborhood near Traders Village) for $119,900.

Previous owners were kicked out by their bank, but not before ripping the lights out, put holes in the wall, tearing the tile out of the shower (wtf?) looks like they dribbled caramel syrup all over the carpet and ruinied it...just lots of stuff wrong with the house.

We tried $113,900 as an initial offer and they rejected it saying "Sold to someone else", then a couple weeks later it was back. We tried again at $116,900, again... "Sold to someone else"...the third time we just paid the full asking price.

1706 SQFT, 3BR, 2.5 BA, on .36 acres. This year we will re-do the master bath and finish the kitchen cabinets and the house will be 100% remodeled...every room has been changed. But I refi'd with Quicken Loans last year and went from $1150/mo to $980...I'm going to miss this payment when we move...but I cannot STAND working where I am at now and really am disliking the general Grand Prairie area
