  • How does an accident impact value?

Looking for opinions from both sides here. I've visited with one member already but the price has come down more.

2000 coupe, manual with 72k miles. Only mods are cai, catback, and HRE wheels.

Autocheck says an accident in 2005 and I can't tell it ever happened.

Whatt do you guys think on value? I know what I can get it for but don't want to influence opinions based on that. It has HUD and I believe most all options. Not sure how I could determine the trim level.

I am hoping to avoid the "it's worth what you are willing to pay". I definitely agree but trying to ballpark the value. I only buy cars with "meat on the bone" but am new to the c5 world.

If it's not a rebuilt title, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Is it from an individual? Can he tell you what the accident was...front, rear, air bags deploy, etc?

Clean title. He had owned it about a year and a half and knows previouss owner. Neither of then ran the carfax according to him and I have no reason to believe he isn't being truthful. Talked to him for a long time. Carfax says front right damage.

He's a car guy to the core. Interestingly enough when I tried to look up who he was I found he was on street outlaws kc... Brought the promods and a few other cars. He never brought it up but I always search people to find out if I an going to get shot lol.

that's why Im not a fan of carfax or autocheck, as far as accidents. For miles? Cool, but even then, it's all gathered up info and the accuracy of that is based on who is imputing.

Was the accident as small as hitting a pot hole, blowing a tire, and having the police block traffic while a wrecker comes? Or did it come within a hundred bucks of totaling? In the end, if it was a good repair, then you shouldnt be able to tell. At that point...

Lol nice meme. Auto check actually says it was with a tree... But that still doesn't give much. I agree it sucks. Inn just trying to score a good enough deal to resale it down the road and make money or break even

As a buyer, I'd always use something like that to knock the price down a little more.

As a seller, I tell those kind of buyers "no thanks" since there's plenty of other people that probably don't care about a minor fender bender as long as you can't tell.

              Does that help?

George that's how I approach it. My goal was to actually get opinions on the value. I'll post up a pic

the more valuable the vehicle, the more it impacts it...

it murders trade-in value, but private party is all over the map. Some people don't care. Some won't touch it.

                    I'm the latter on something that's $20k++

That's what I have found in the past as well with most cars. I never have traded to a dealer and likely never will...I'll never be wealthy enough to take the hit of purchasing from a dealer. I've bought and sold salvage as well but wasn't sure if the vette game is different by much. I know how vette owners can be with their arrogance and small weiners.

This is only an $11.5k purchase if I go for it. Before I found the accident on the record I had it bought for more but I bailed after the accident. He just came back to me with a reduced offer today.

I'm probably over thinking it. I think I could break even on it but I have been on a good streak with flipping.
