Postal Stamp scam?

At lunch, I went by the post office. A couple tweeker looking guys were in front of me, buying almost $500 in stamps, using a check, and had a paper ID that matched the check. The lady at the counter ran it all through, made copies etc. After they left, she told me that it was odd, and explained what took her so long.

So how does that work? I figure it was a stolen check book, but what do you do with that many stamps?

Perhaps these dudes write a hell of a lot of letters.

Yep they didn't get those jobs because they were good at it, or qualified. But because they were next in line for it. When I worked for Siemens I spent most of the time in the Postal Distribution Centers all over the country. The bigger the city, the more fucked up it was, with downtown Chicago being the worst. They had to put together a focus team to figure out why it took 10 days to mail a letter from Chicago, to Chicago. The result was, too much snacks and drinks on the workroom floor was the root cause. So they limited the snacks to the breakrooms, which promptly caused the workers to file grievances, so then they had to focus on getting all those resolved. LOL

At a friends wedding years ago and the guy sitting next to me at the dinner table was a USPS worker. We got to talking and he told me absolutely loved his job. Said he would work for an hr or two then go sneak into one of the trucks and sleep away most of the day.

I knew a girl that worked at the Albany NY center and she told me she went "out on stress" for a month, with short term disability pay combined with a certain number of PTO days, etc.., basically got paid the whole time.

Now, this distribution center was clean, friendly folks, pretty well run from what I saw. How one could get stressed out from loading mail onto a machine while listening to headphones and texting, I could never figure out. But it was not an uncommon occurrence, especially with the 10 year or more veterans...
