Why hasn't that loophole been closed?

I guess if they don't pay the premium it doesn't matter.

What happened to buying your kids giant tank beaters while they are in their teens?

My first truck was a 84 Dodge Ram Charger that you could not put a dent in. I wrecked it in a ditch that had a 6 foot straight drop and all it did was crease the fender slightly. 2 tows pulled it out and I drove it home no probs.

I know it wasn't his fault but teenagers will pull in teenage Karma with vehicles.

Because groups like NAACP and certain groups of people cry that it descriminates against them because they cant afford to buy a 6 month policy for their gold trimmed Cadillac or Yukon because they welfare check isnt large enough.

In Texas, it is a requirement by law to have an uninsured vehicle towed and impounded until proof of insurance can be provided.
That officer should have pulled the kid over as soon as he got on public roads.

            This is almost never enforced.

Texas cops ain't got time for that but, oh man if you don't have a front license plate on your car be prepared to get pulled over and harassed like a mofo...

                That's some horseshit.
I had to deal with that bullshit when I bought a GT many years ago before we could use our phones for instant coverage.
Bought the car late in the day, took it home, and planned on picking up my insurance next door to where I worked the next morning.
Turned onto the loop to go to work, got lit up to pull over as I eased into 2nd gear.
I was incredibly polite, showed her my bill of sale, and explained where I was heading to get my ID cards, but she had my car towed anyway.

That actually just happened a week and a half ago. He then began grilling me on county borders in accordance with my address and where my car was registered.
He kept a shitty attitude of disbelief as I explained why I was on his road.
We had just left the grocery store and heading home.
Didn't believe a word of it. Also didn't think it was my car.
I couldn't help but laugh at his stubborn stupidity towards the end of it, as he wrote me a warning.

Not sure if it's still like this, but when I got out of the Army and moved back to CA I had a wife and a kid and was making like $10 an hour, and did not have insurance. Got pulled over and ticketed.. The fine for the first offense ticket was over $1,000. What an ass beating! I paid some out of pocket (over a couple years) and worked off some on Community Service.

That was 18 years ago, and I have had insurance every day since.

I haven't had a car with front plates in 10 or so years. I've never been pulled over for no front plates - or even cited once they got me for speeding or what ever stupid thing I was doing at the time.

some insurance companies will complete a risk assessment if you make a claim, be it collision or comprehensive. you make a claim and then cancel before they even see the car, there may still be a risk assessment that could change your rates. not for the better of course. i am not sure on um claims, but anytime you call your insurance, you open a task for them.

the next question is, what is a risk assessment? no one has ever given a straight answer. what is there to assess if there was no claim paid?

I think this is where I messed up with my wifes last run in. She was hit in a parking lot by a big 18 wheeler and I called State Farm just in case because the guy was trying to claim he didn't do anything. In the end his insurance paid out but it looks like SF created a CLUE case and its hurting my wife's driving record. I am going to have to call someone with a copy of the check showing the other insurance company paid out.

Next time carry your current ID card with you if anything. ID card along with your bill of sale you should be good, considering your policy covers any newly purchased vehicles for up to 30 days.
