Yup, finding out about it when I couldn't pick up a piece of paper off the ground and everybody is telling me I need what would most likely end up being be the "first" of multiple back surgeries throughout my life tail-spun me pretty hard...

On a plus note, my pessimistic outlook has actually prevented me from stressing/worrying about the actual pregnancy.

I figure how can I live a completely miserable life and fuck up a perfectly good kid if the kid isn't perfect to begin with? As such, I have had the innate sense that the pregnancy and birth will all go textbook/fairytale.

Thankfully, for 7 months, that has been the case. My gut feeling says the next two months will go swimmingly as well. Then my real punishment can commence! LOL

        Well brother... you're not alone.

I will say that I was pretty fucked up even when we were moving in November.

Then all of a sudden it's mid January and I realize that I'm not in constant pain. Discomfort? Yes... pain? Nah, not compared to what I went through the 2nd half of last year.

Here's hoping that suddenly you look up one day soon and find yourself in a similar state.

Patience has never been a virtue I've possessed. This experience has crammed it down my throat though I've repeatedly thrown it right back up.

I've got a long way to go to get back to even 80% of where I was this time last year, but the fact that I made it from 10% to 50% is a blessing that I don't overlook.

Good luck, and if you want to commiserate/vent, you know where to find me!

          Likewise on that last part!

I am in a whole different place now than I was at the rnd of 2015. I have some mobility, and can make it past lunch without any major pain/discomfort. I have started to come to terms with not beinv able to do home improvement projects and some vehicle maintenance myself.

I paid for regular maintenance for the first time in my life last weekend. Paid for an oil change and transmission flush/fill and filter. It sucks!

I'm in the same boat. My back pain really ruins my quality of life. You get tired easily when you hurt your very short fused etc. The only fix is probably surgery and that's no guarantee. To the younger guys definitely save your back because when you get older you will feel it. A pinched nerve really sucks so avoid it if you can.

Picked up an inversion table yesterday (like new, $40, thank you CL!), doing regular stretching that my chiropractor told me to do, cancelled the rest of their visits, going to get xrays & a steroid burst. I asked my physician for a referral for a neurologist and an MRI, he says to start with xrays & the steroid. I will schedule deep tissue massages for next week, when I'm back in town.

What steroid did they give you? Prednisolone? This is what they typically put me on when I get a steroid pack. 99% of the time it knocks out the pain/discomfort and gets me well on my way. It may be a good idea to couple that with a muscle relaxer. This last go round they added in tizanidine which is a low level muscle relaxer. I can take 1 twice a day with no adverse affect.

I was so skeptical of everything they were trying to do with me, I never even took my steroid pack LOL

Normally, that's me with medicine as well. Right now though, if it looked like dog poo and smelled as bad, but guaranteed relief, I would find a way to ingest it.

I read just enough about the steroid pack that said it was temporary relief, that my untrusting self figured they were going to give me a week's worth of relief and the pain would come on stronger... which would entice me into surgery

my wife just rolls her eyes. she's all about medicine.

I know what you mean though when you hit your limit and just want it to go away. That was me a couple weeks before I finally got in to see the doc. I came really close to eating some of those vicodin

My last round was only temporary relief. Every other time I was given oral steroids, it gave me long term relief from the pain. If anything, it will alleviate the pain long enough to rebuild some strength and stability around your spine and help going forward.

Before all of this started, I was very opposed to prescription meds. Aleve was about the strongest oral med that I would take.

Cancelled the Chiropractor and got xrays, doc looked at them, did some range of motion exercises with me and said it's not sciatica, but sacroiliitis. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-c...e/ovc-20166357
He said my lower back looked really good in terms of spacing and disks, said the only thing he could see was the discoloration @ the joint, which, in conjunction with the tests, pointed to sacroiliitis.
Got a deep tissue massage before I went to see the doc (you can't spend $50 better than this), started my prednisone steroid burst this morning, hoping for relief. Have more deep tissue massages scheduled for next week, doing a lot of stretching as well.
