Your grill doesn't get hot enough to replicate what the four and five star steakhouses do. And there is no substitute for the heat they have on tap.

With the exception of the actual chef on the board, I'll put my skills up against anyone here, and I can't even do it. And I've tried every way imaginable to get temps as high as possible. While the higher the temp the better they get, there is no substitute for 1800 degrees.
Well that's a whole other species we're talking about. I haven't had Bob's but I've had other high end and I just feel cheated after paying such a high price. I'd rather cook one at home any day.

BTW, who's the chef you're referring to? I'm always open ears for new things when it comes to cooking, grilling, smoking.

If you take Costco out of the mix, buying filets at Central Market really isn't but a few bucks cheaper than they are at Bob's.

If you do give them a try, and I highly recommend, go to the one in Grapevine. Don't waste your time with the other locations. They suck in comparison.

Strange place and all, but I really like the wood-fired peppercorn sirloin at Red Lobster. Probably the best steak I have ever had at a place outside of the Del Frisco level.

There is a place in Mansfield, near Cooper and 287, called Texas Slabs Beef Jerky. They sell prime whole tenderloins that are aged for a minimum of 28 days, for $19.99/lb. They will slice them however you like and cryovac them if you want to freeze part of it. They also sell prime ribeyes, strip, and sirloin if that's what you want.

I cant tell the difference in a steak from Texas Roadhouse or a steak from a restaurant that will cost dinner into the hundreds.

I do know they can do far better at cooking one than I ever could.

Ill bet you if you had the two side by side you could easily tell. There is a big difference between a prime and a choice steak.

Some people have very underdeveloped palates. Hence why some people are convinced Chili's and Applebees serve good food. I gotta say, that's a problem I would hate to have.

Had a client that invited me to dinner to go over some upcoming jobs they were awarded and said Saltgrass is where he wanted to meet up. As soon as he said that I was thinking "Ugh!!", but thought to myself whatever, I'll grit it out. So we meet up, go inside, wait 5-6 minutes to be seated, and another 4-5 before anyone comes back to the table for drink/appetizer orders, so needless to say the service started out horrible. From there it took the server 15 minutes to bring the drinks(2 bottled beer and 2 waters), and I'm not exaggerating at all I was keeping track of the time, keep in mind that they are dead as a doornail as it is only 6pm on a Thursday. So 15 minutes later we get the drinks and order some food. I was going to stay away from the steak due to they fuck it up every time I go there, but figured I give them a shot at redemption. Bad idea. I ordered a T-bone, medium rare, but 26 minutes later when they finally brought out our food and set it on the table I thought they had literally dropped my steak on the floor. This steak was not even seared, it was fucking charred, like completely crusted black charred. So I'm like "wtf is this?" to the waiter and he says that's how they normally prepare them. I'm like "O rly?, I'll call BS on that". So he goes to get a manger and the manager comes back sees the steak and turns to waiter and says "dude wtf is up with the steak, that's not our standard preparation". Whoooops!! Waiter is obviously embarrassed and hauls ass to the kitchen to get a refire on a T-bone on the fly. Manager apologizes and says my steak will be free as well as if the next one that comes out is not right to send it back and he would go cook one for me personally. Came back about 10 minutes later with a better looking steak on the outside, but it was past medium rare, and almost past medium, but I ate the damn thing anyway since I had skipped lunch yesterday and also since we had been waiting so long in the first place. So, there you have it, overall Saltgrass still fucking blows! I did thank the manager on my way out for having them cook another steak and my client still left a tip for the server since his food was all correct and cooked properly.

That sounded like a complete clusterfuck. I have never had to send a steak back. But I don't order them very often either.

Our experience last night was good. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table as the place was pretty busy. The spinach dip was awesome and the steaks were good. In and out in about an hour and a half.

I don't know where the Saltgrass was where you went, but everywhere we were driving was packed last night. Valentines day leftovers I guess.

                      Oh we went to Hillstone.

The only thing I like at Saltgrass is their bacon-wrapped shrimp. Yummy.

Saltrgrass does have a decent happy hour. half priced beer and half priced apps. Appetizers are pretty hard to fuck up anywhere. Steak on the other hand....

I love my Dad to death, and it's because of him I have such an interest in cooking. Growing up, he did the cooking in our house. And he taught me a whole lot when I was a kid. But the man can't cook a fucking steak to save his life. He invited me over for dinner on Monday, and he had picked up some pretty nice choice ribeyes. I told him I wanted mine rare. It was mid well, the rest were way beyond well. I want to teach him the right way to do it, but I don't want to offend him. lol It's funny, he will try to re-create some of the things that I do very well, and he'll invite us over for dinner. "Hey, I smoked some pork and brisket. I'd love to have you over for dinner if you promise not to hold it against me."
