Has anyone had pipes freeze and bust?

...in Texas? I've always wrapped outside faucets and pipes and have had good luck. It made me curious with our mild winters if anyone has had it happen.

I dont wrap my spigots. I dont think it helps. I do have heat tape on my well piping.

Yep, last winter had an outside faucet freeze and leak in my house. Was suppose to be a frost free one too.

a lot depends on which wall the pipes in concern face. You can take all the preventative moves you want. but unless you were there for the pipe forming process there are no guarantees. seam spilits are common in all piping applications and only get exposed with expansion/contraction. I will wait for our resident ruffdaddy to confirm though.

It only takes one unexpected hard freeze to create a headache. I am lazy about keeping my pipes wrapped and have ended up regretting it. It's no fun tearing into a wall to fix something that wouldn't have needed to be fixed with 2 minutes of work.

I let the uneducated union boys deal with simple shit like that. My efforts are dedicated to more complex challenges...especially when compared to a piece of pipe. So go ahead...spread your wings like a penguin and impress us with your vast knowledge of frozen outdoor faucets.

now i do live somewhere much colder than most of you, but i keep my exterior faucets wrapped with those cheap styrofoam covers. it's been 9* a couple of mornings this last week so i'd hate to see what happened had i not.

if some of you aren't wrapping the faucets, at least disconnect the hoses from them. the hose will wick the cool upwards towards the spout and could cause an otherwise survivable freeze to pop the pipes.

can you fabricate something to protect the pipes on your DESKTOP CNC MACHINE?

I could fabricate that with a spoon and a styrofoam block. Theres no point in spending time generating the machine code and setting up a run for a part that can be completed by a child with silverware

Squirrels chewed the insulation around a pipe in my attic several years back, which led to a pipe freezing after 3 days straight of sub freezing temps, and a ruptured pipe above the garage. Once it thawed it gushed water above my Cougar, and some of the ceiling and insulation ended up on the hood.

The only problem I've had was when it dropped really fast and the gas pressure in the area dropped so low that the pilot light in my water tank shut off. We did have plastic water line that someone ran through the attic for an ice machine bust once.
