The propane place that sold it to me opened the valve on top and pulled a plug off, said it was empty, but it smells something fierce.

Plan on using a plasma cutter to cut the ends off, making a few fire pits. The rest of it, I'll try to sell to someone to make a smoker out of, I presume.

Anyhow, who's done this before and lived to tell about it?
The strong smell is all of the additive that has been accumulating over the years.
Turn the tank to where the openings, at least one, are facing straight down. Propane is more dense than air. It will have no choice but to settle at the bottom of its enclosure and escape through the hole.

A full day will be more than enough time to remove any propane. The smell will be there until you burn it out.

It's about 8' long, 30" diameter. I will probably roll it over and let the propane settle out, then soap/water just because.

I'll get two fire pits, and I will either sell the rest for a smoker for someone or cut a few rings off and make a different style fire pit.

What NayNay did is how we have it at the ranch. Only downside to this style is that you can't rest your feet on the ring b/c it will delaminate your boot :^( /hard lessons.

I learned this lesson with a tennis shoe while drinking whiskey on a camping trip lol. Got up to go pee after sitting there for about 3-4 whiskey drinks and found the rubber was no longer attached to the foam on my shoe.

I was looking for something at home depot and came across some kit for around $350.00. While at the store I did the googles and Vila said it was fine to use masonry bricks so that's what we did. Employees kept coming up to us saying it wouldn't work and tried to sell us on the kit.

            Haha, of course they did!

I actually just copied our old neighbors who 'made' one. We've been using it for at least 5 or 6 years and have never had any issues. And you can put your feet on the edge of the bricks!

I made one with rumblestones from home depot.. about 200 bucks in materials all said and done. I used loctite 500(?) landscaping adhesive on the outbound side to keep it all locked together. 3 years later its still holding up just fine

The bricks are 7-8 deep, loctite is only on the outbound side to keep them tied together. There's no chance it will burn or catch fire

Rolled it over yesterday, rolled it back over today and filled it with soapy water.

Neighborhood is piiiiiiisssssssssssed. I had no idea this fucker would smell so bad.

Wish me luck. If I stop posting... someone come delete my browser history... and make my wife a decent offer on the bronco.

This was done with a cut off wheel on an angle grinder. I probably went through 4-5 disks, took 1.5-2 hours.

For the rest of the cuts, I'll use a Hobart Airforce 400. Will update with pics when I've built a few fire pits.
