  • Bought an old propane tank, need to cut the ends off

and I don't want to blow myself up.

The propane place that sold it to me opened the valve on top and pulled a plug off, said it was empty, but it smells something fierce.

Plan on using a plasma cutter to cut the ends off, making a few fire pits. The rest of it, I'll try to sell to someone to make a smoker out of, I presume.

Anyhow, who's done this before and lived to tell about it?
Ronald Reagan:"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

Homer: "Bart...there's 2 things I know about women. Never give them nicknames like "jumbo" or "boxcar" and always keep receipts...it makes you look like a business man."

Most people fill them with soapy water, I'm out on that, huge pain in the ass. If you have an Argon or Co2 bottle just purge the tank with (inert) gas and cut away.

I prefer to purge them with Acetaldehyde. (dont do this)

I run a hose from a tail pipe and fill it with exhaust gas before cutting.

gasoline will expell any leftover vapors.

Have some video tape it when you start cutting. We may see it on the news if it doesn't end well.

                be careful tho!

Put a bullet in it. Worst case is a cool show from afar.

Yeah, that's why I'm going to probably just use an old compressor tank. Too much of a wuss.

                            Old washer tub!

                            I just did this:

I did put some old brinks in the bottom, and some pavers around it. Of course, it's not mobile.

I paid about $120 for this piece of 36" scrap pipe

                              turned out quite nice
