Advance auto had 10 off 20 for a while and they send out 50% off coupons every few weeks.

I hear ya brotha! I worked counters at Pep Boys and AZ back in the day. I've got lots of stories. Some days, I could totally relate with Al. Exspecially when I worked in tha Grove and had to look up a fruel pump for a Bruick Impalo.

Yeah that's what we do, in fact we throw alot of shop referrals out because most people have no idea where or when they had their last oil change. If it's an immediate thing they want fixed I call ahead to let the shop know that they are coming over for an estimate (for the shop to give the customer an estimate when the customer arrives after they look at the vehicle for the customer) and what codes they have coming up. The shop then usually buys those parts from us. Occasionally the mom and pop shop we send business to will toss us donuts on Saturday mornings. We try to call ahead, some of our shops do up charge quite a bit even from our over the counter prices

Had another guy come in here doing plugs on his sons 05 f150 5.4, he broke one, actually he was trying to change only one. Had to have the talk with him about the extractor tool we rent out. Today is Friday so I'm sure around 5pm I'll have another guy trying to do a tune up.

The 4.6 that came in the 2007 explorer sport Trac has the extended plugs like the 5.4 but the tips are much narrower. I gave the customer the heads up on them but they look like they are less prone to seize or break

Key to being a successful mechanic: scribble all over your truck with a sharpie all the work you can do. Make sure it's all really small so people can read it.

            Never seen this guy before

Even on one that's $300 or more? Damn

They're naive to the impersonal experience.
Have to disagree here. My experience is that buying online is very often 50-75% off. Every once in awhile, it will hit 80-90%. Depending on what you're buying obviously, but yeah ebay and craigslist. Used parts. Even junkyards these days seem to want an arm and a leg for a part that can be found online for half the price. I can see what you're saying if you're buying new OEM stuff, as yeah that stuff seems to be about 25% off online. But there are decent parts out there (even new) online that are significantly cheaper than the parts store or warehouse. In my experience, those places just want too much. Why buy there when I can get something just as good for a lot cheaper elsewhere.

                            • The better question,

If walmart sold autoparts, price matched, and delivered them at 5% less than your parts source but had ZERO auto knowledge would they be your sole provider? Or do you expect a high level of service with a part

Walmart had been dabbling with selling autoparts and realistically could put every parts store out of buisness. Would you care or not really
