It is fun but pricey as stated. Been a few times, last time was Roadkill night and that was a blast. Just make sure there isn't anything going on at the ballpark or the lights from it will overpower the screen.
Haven't been to the Fort Worth one, but have wanted to try it (honestly I keep forgetting it's there). From the pics it looks great.
I have gone to the one in Ennis, somewhere between 5 and 8 years ago.. I was not impressed at all. In fact, as I recall, it was kind of a dump. There were also a bunch of 'hood rat' type teenagers sitting / congregating outside of vehicles making enough noise to interfere with the movies.
It was tolerable enough for going one time for nostalgia sake (I grew up going to drive-in movies in CA) but we have no intentions of going back to that one. I mean, unless it has been improved since then.
Never been to the Galaxy Drive In, but the Coyote is a pretty fun place to go. They have a kids' playground so that can keep them occupied. They have beer and wine for the adults. Food is typical hot dogs / hamburgers / fries, but they almost always have a revolving circuit of food trucks there and live music. I didn't think it was terribly expensive, about on par with a normal movie night, but every showing is a double feature.
Every time I've been, the atmosphere has been great, kind of a casual 'responsible adult' vibe, with no shithead kids or thug teenagers to ruin it. I suggest you go and see what you think. At worst you get to catch two movies in the comfort of your car.
When the government pays, the government controls.
I love Coyote, food is meh but if you eat before you go it's not a big deal. Best thing I can tell you is to make sure you can get comfortable, especially if you are doing both movies. We take lots of pillows and blanket and fold down the rear seat and it's great.
We visit the Galaxy theater in Ennis maybe every 3 months or so. I have never had any issues with people being loud or unruly while the movie is on and the crowd looks like the normal movie going crowd IMO. I just go for the funnel cakes.
We did talk about going to the Fort Worth one next time, since it is about the same distance for us.
I've gone several times. It's a drive in so don't expect the viewing to be amazing. They have speakers so you really don't need to use your own car but most people do. I prefer using headphones and an FM receiver.
There is always one jerk that doesn't know how to disable their auto headlamps so expect that. Hopefully eventually they'll be asked to leave.
Food is pretty good and cheap or it's really easy to smuggle in your own stuff.
There is also one in Granbury and they charge per car instead of by the person.

We may have caught it on a bad night.. IDK, but even without the teenagers it wouldn't be worth it to me to go out there again. Too far to drive to risk it sucking. Of course, one's location would be a big factor.

We're thinking that we're going to put an air mattress in the back of the truck and back in, that way we can stack pillows up against the back window and lay/lean in the bed.
The one and only time I have ever called in a suspected drunk driver was that night, on the way home. This fucker kept pacing us, at whatever speed we chose (to try and avoid him) and was swerving all over the fucking place. I don't remember which agency pulled him over, but there were like 3 cop cars waiting for him at one of the on-ramps. I kinda felt bad for doing it but he was at the point that I would not have been surprised if he would have killed someone.
