Billing for miles driven works for me, only put a couple thousand miles a year on all of my cars combined.

This will be the biggest non-ending tax ever started.

Just doing a little research on your example. Maypearl's population is 966. Are you sure those 966 people would generate enough revenue to support the roads in their corp limits? Also, do any of them use I35E or W?

I would be curious to see if the town in your example does or does not get more money than they put in. But even if they put in more than the town uses, it still ignores that the down is dependent on the roads coming in and out of it. I'm pretty sure Maypearl would die if there was no access to I35.

BTW, you may get your wish. As I mentioned in my earlier post, you may soon be billed only for the miles you drive. Just remember, the government is going to be tracking every movement of your vehicle so they know how much to bill you. Are you sure you want to go down that path?

They won't be tracking anything I drive because I'll disable that shit.

Secondly, I am pretty sure that most of the streets in Maypearl were probably built 40 years ago. Maybe 50 years. And they are probably asphalt. In any event, there is no way those people should be paying to develop areas of Plano.

How about surge pricing. No reason they can't charge more when there is higher traffic. Uber does it, so why not the government.

Yep. People will drive less or figure out ways to alter the odometers bringing in less money. State will raise mileage tax because it doesnt bring in as much as they thought. A few years later numbers are still down, prices up on new roads and maintenance. Solution is another new tax, but we keep registration fees, inspection fees, gas tax, and mileage tax. Repeat cycle.

I drive from Sachse to Plano for work, Brand/Bush to Custer/Bush and to make my commute quicker, I get on and off the tollway twice to avoid sitting in slow moving traffic.

The couple of bucks it costs me is worth it to not be stuck in my car doing nothing productive.

On Plano Parkway, it's 30+ min with no accidents
