They could have made 820 6 lanes each way if those fucking toll lanes weren't there.

I've become beat down by the toll roads. I use them when work pays and on weekends when I have to drive to the other side of the metroplex for my sons' games. Other than that, I try to avoid them, but it doesn't seem to work out as much as I'd like. My wife seems to think her tolltag is a rewards card though.

They spent millions redoing 820, a 2 lane each way high to turn it into a 2 lane each way high way..... Fucking useless.
This. The state uses Imminent Domain to widen the highway and put access roads into people's front yards, eviscerating people's businesses with road closures and parking lot traffic, then they sell off the only land they rightfully owned/needed (the original 820) to a foreign company to build a toll road in the middle.

It remains 2 lanes each way, quite a few people died because of the constantly-changing road pattern with little to no advance warning or safety measures, there is no EB exit for N. Beach anymore, the WB exit for N. Beach is a clusterfuck, and to add insult to injury, the toll road has a nice new flyover from 35W S to 820 EB, and the actual highway still has the shitty makeshift exit that sucks and has an incredibly short merge "lane" to get onto 820.

Eminent Domain. And it isn't just this state, it's the nation, as the process is constitutional under the Takings Clause. Public Use? Might as well hit those knees and see how the power-dick tastes. You'll lose every time.

I will agree that the design is absolutely terrible. The 820/35 work is enraging. Nothing like sitting still for hours because one direction or another is shut down. I usually detour via Meacham, which forces me into Bucks...

I formed an LLC in Montana and registered my 03 Cobra (which has lifetime Montana tags) to it. I get bills every so often.

Maybe if they stopped building ugly bridges that cost millions and instead built a normal regular bridge they would save enough $$ to build other roads

My buddy designed the rebar layout needed for those bridges on that. He said it was a huge pain in the dick compared to most of his jobs.

                      Yep, posting from my phone.

I agree, they (the Fed gov) will continue to take until someone stands up to them. As of right now, people just work harder to try and maintain the status quo. It will be interesting to see which straw breaks the camel's back, or how long it takes. Right now we have BLM on one side (albeit, rioting for different reasons), and people like these ranchers willing to take action. How long until everyone in the middle is willing to give the middle finger to a government that shows little concern for the average citizen?

I don't think it will happen any time soon...

They could have but they make more money adding the toll lanes. I don't bitch about it I just don't use them unless I want to pay.

That means occasionally longer commutes, but Ibplan for that because I do not want to pay to drive on roads when I am already paying to drive on roads. Unless there is somewhere around here that is land locked and surrounded by only toll roads (i am not aware if there is) then you can avoid driving on them if you wish to put forth the extra time. That said I wish they would either be free once paid for or disappear for a gas tax. Neither will happen and I believe we are headed towards a milesge tax on top of the gas tax and tolls. Someone posted about it above but I read somewhere that the bill was being worked on last session, I thought. Anyway I agree I think that is going to be what the politicians vote in.
I honestly just do not see this happening. It's too invasive (OBDC readers?) and it can't be enforced correctly. I drove 20,000 miles last year and I'd say 70% of those miles were out of state, unless they have GPS tracking on my vehicle, how could I prove those were out of state? Plus, eff paying a tax on 20,000 miles a year, I drive a lot. Just raise the gas tax.

The only time I've ever been on a toll road is when my old outdated GPS took me there.

It's because you don't live among civilization. It is impossible to get around the metroplex in a timely manner without using a toll road.

I would actually disagree. We don't worry much about tolls on the east side of Dallas unless we are having to go north. Recently we had to drive up the tollway to a wedding in The Colony and took the tollway. I am thinking it was $9 for one trip up the tollroad. We did the trip twice so I got a bill close to $40. That is not the norm for us.
