The South Lamar Matt's El Rancho is excellent, and this is a good time of year for afternoon drinks on the patio before your brother's show. The food's pretty good, too. Kerby Lane Cafe has pretty good breakfast food. It's kind of like Dream Cafe in Dallas. Late night tacos, and hangover breakfast tacos are best aquired at the first roach coach you come to. There WILL be one parked in front of every seedy gas station you come to, not the nice ones, and the food WILL be delicious, because it's Austin. Figure that out, DFW, please. If I had to pick a favorite roach coach, and I'm sure all my LSR compadres will concur, it's Tacos La Guera. They make me want to froat punch someone's mom.

I don't like Trudy's, never have. I'm also not a big fan of Magnolia cafe, that all the Austinites LOVE.

I haven't tried the place Brent mentioned yet, but it's on my list for sure, next time i'm in town.

Magnolia is good, but not worth the wait, IMO.
I always stick with the original Kerbey Lane, but my little brother has been waiting tables there for years, so I'm a little partial.

I gotta also say Trudy's. They have a rule there that if you have two mexican martini's, you're cut off they're so strong. They're pretty strong. Here is a tip though...you can have one, then have a few other drinks. They won't cut you off until you've specifically had two martinis. Just ate at a little tex mex place called Garcias here in Buda earlier this week. Great food, cheap as hell, and the service was faster than a chinese food place. There's some Taco place down here that has a few locations called "Sharky's" or something like that and everbody I live with says they're awesome, but I don't think I've ever had them. Juan in a Million is really good. Kirby Lane is just Ihop for the most part. It's good, but I never found anything "exceptional" about it.
