I agree, but I think the rate of upwards movement is also slow. Companies act like 5% raises are some massive thing to be thankful about, but when you're paying employees so low to begin with, 5% isnt that much.

You're correct on the 'be gracious you got 5%,' but there are other things to consider too. One, jobs usually pay what supply/demand dictates. Pay bands are usually pretty standard across the industry, so for the large part, that has been established the correct way. Two, and more importantly, how do people spend/use the raise they received? Did they go buy a new car, shoes, etc. If so, was it because they needed something, wanted something, or what.

I got a standard raise for the year. It was a couple grand overall. My current monthly net is less than last year (despite changing health care plans to a lower cost one) though. Why? I'm taking all of my raise and some more money and putting it back. I'd bet that not many people who got a raise fall into that category. Sure, I'm in a good spot now, but like someone else stated -- we bought a house when the prices bottomed because someone needed out. I also have 4 car titles in the safe and will keep it that way for a long, long time. It's all about choices...

No and my rent isnt exactly cheap either, but I was referencing people that are paying $800 a month for a 2 bedroom, its hard for them to ever save up enough for a house without getting loan insurance.

Sounds like you made poor financial decisions and cant afford a house because of that, or think you deserve more house than you got a loan approved for, and are mad at others for your own poor judgement and want the government to fix it. Actually, he rents because he can't find the house they want, and he doesn't want to settle, or overpay. His house hunt saga has been posted on here a few times. Might want to think of possibilities before you start throwing around accusations that make you look foolish.

I'm not bitching about income inequality for myself but for others. I don't have a house because I run my own company and getting a loan requires multiple years of solvency or 20% down being self employed and my other hasn't worked in years so we couldnt put it in her name. While I do have ample amount of money saved up, I dont want to drop it all down at once with taxes looming. Since we were living at my dads house after moving back from California, we opted to continue to save for another year in a nice place while we searched for a home. Hell, i paid my entire 15 months rent up front. I'm sure I've made poor financial decisions before, I am not perfect, but I feel I do rather well.

I wish more employees talked about what they made with each other as I am sure they would find out just how out of whack the payband normally is. I've rarely seen people anywhere but the lowest of the payband in the jobs I've worked that would actually disclose what they make to me. I agree there are many factors, but I still feel that for most jobs the house always wins by too large a margin.

I am not the one looking foolish. He is one on here not making any sense saying he makes that much money, wants everyone to share money so there is income equality, then posts saying hard work is needed (or something to that effect I am paraphrasing). I am not the only one who is either confused by his statements or has the impression he is a socialist. Income equality and wealth redistribution is socialist so if you support that the math says you must believe in socialism.
