  • Anyone interested in a Buick GS 'vert stage 1?

Heres the deal, found a 1970 buick GS stage 1 'vert in a warehouse. It has title issues (IE lack thereof, and Hawaii does not issue bonded titles) As far as I can tell, the vehicle is still numbers matching (going to verify that today) Anyway, I could have it bought and in Dallas for $5k. It needs a full restoration, but when I looked over the car, all the buick GS stuff appeared to be present with the vehicle. Both myself, and my LEO brother checked the VIN with every database we could find to verify it was never stolen. There is no outstanding contest about the title. Looks to fit under bonded title procedures to a T. (vehicle is a california special, possibly the only buick GS 'vert to have that option). I checked with california and Hawaii to find a previous owner. Both states scrap records after 4 years of inactivity. The vehicle body has 50,000 miles on it so its very possible the car hasnt been driven or titled since the 1970s. I'll post up pics later today.

Are you sure it's a 1970? I'm pretty sure the California package was discontinued in the late 60's.

about 1% of the stage 1 cars came out of the cali plant. This was one of them, and probably the only convertible. California special was a dealer's option for 1970. The current owner said it was, and everything else he has claimed the car to be has checked out. It needs a full restoration, but as far as I can tell, its all there. I will be conferring with the buick museum to find the original build sheet/option package.

BTW, car was a factory white/white/white setup.

I already ran that VIN number and it seems to be the real deal.

If done properly (which will take some real coin), it's $100k car.

A car just like that green one fetched $156,000 through RM auctions very recently. Obviously its been documented since day 1, but you get the idea...

I'm not trying to argue with you, by any means. It's a great find either way. I helped my step-dad restore several vintage cars when I was grounded or trying to earn money for my allowance in HS, and a '69 California GS happened to be one of those cars.

Not all of the GS's manufactured in California were the California edition, and there are noted differences in the GS1 and the California. GS1 has a 455 V8, and the California Edition came with a 350 V8 and California badges.

Like I said, either way, it's a GREAT find, but you're talking about two different cars when you're saying Stage 1 and California edition.
