We have tile that has the look and texture of handscraped hardwood throughout the whole house. Looks great, and would take a lot to fuck it up. The only regret I have is the color. We went with Black Walnut (very dark), and the next house will have a lighter color. The dark stuff shows everything and my boxer sheds like a mother fucker.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

Id go laminate. THere are plenty of great looking ones with texture on them. The fix on the sound is a good quality underlayment. Go to Floor and Decor and check out their displays. THere is a golf ball that you can knock on cheap underlayment and a nice one to see the difference. The nice one sounds solid.
When I build my next house, it will be laminate for the same reason. My dogs have killed my wood floors.

We've got vinyl that looks like hand-scraped wood. It's from Karndean. We originally only did the kitchen so we splurged and got high quality stuff. Then we decided to run it throughout the living room, down the hall and into the hall bathroom. That wasn't cheap.
This stuff is roughly $7/SF installed but it's gorgeous and should (better!) last a long time...

I spent a good bit of time researching the underlayment. I think I paid about 1/2 as much for the underlayment by buying online. I found the exact same product in different color on rolls that were slightly different dimensions (same approx sq. Ft. than what was sold at HD)
If I had to do it over again, for what I got, I would install it the exact same way.
If you currently have glue down, there are some pros/cons. If you demo, the floor underneath should be floated smooth so you wont have the "bounce" that can accompany an unevenness in the slab. Doen side is that you may end up with a different product thickness requiring removal of baseboards.

so the hardwood is glued to the slab of the house, and is a real pain to hammer and chisel up. a buddy at bjj mentioned renting an electric "jackhammer" with a wide ass blade. is there any chance I could do that and not wreck the slab with gouges and holes and such??
