Not my goal. I workout, try to eat lean, stay away from soda & junk food, etc. The problem I had was that my doc didn't even suggest lifestyle changes, he went straight to drugs.

That was also a first blood test. The discussions about long term mental issues that Craig mentioned has come up too. My dad is 63, the muscles in his legs are destroyed and he appears to be getting weaker - his first symptom were the severe leg aches they worn you about. He has also started to slip a cog mentally and has started going through a host of tests and evaluations.

Not saying it's all related to his cholesterol meds, but I'm not going to risk that when I feel there are alternatives that I can try first.

Ridiculous cholesterol, on 2 meds and have been since early 20's.
Drink way more than I should, but I can quit any time.

I need to eat healthier and exercise more, but life has just been too damn busy.

Right on man... diet and exercise would be better than relying on drugs. Id say 75% of the patients I work with in the hospital are on statins and they are fine. I have only run into a handful or two of people that are "allergic" to statins. Having a stroke would be freaking horrible. Heart attack would suck too, but not as bad as a stroke.

29, 6'5" 265lbs, I try to stay active, i go to the gym a few times a week, I try to run a couple miles, a couple times a week, I go to rugby practice a couple times a week, scrimmage and games will be picking up here soon. I eat like shit, I don't drink much, maybe once or twice a week(two or three stout jack and cokes)

My wife hounds me that I need to go to a doctor and get a checked out, I figure I'm in better shape than most my age.

34/ 5'8/ 196lbs. Right knee has torn acl, mcl, partial tear in my lcl. Acl was fixed in high school then retorn Sr year. Left knee has a partial tear in acl, right shoulder has a torn rotator cuff, arthritis in both hands and wrists. Past three years I've noticed a steady increase in weight, energy loss and hair loss I'm sure it has nothing to do with the oil field life. Need to find a good Dr in San Antonio and get a full physical and blood work up

48,5'6",180, my only health issues are typical for getting older. Shoulder pain, mostly sore upper back, neck pain, possibly pinch nerve.
Eye sight getting worse every year.

I do need to lose 20-30 pounds, my Dr. said I'm borderline obese for my height.

I slowed my drinking way down, I was told alcohol dehydrates you and that will increase tightening of your muscles. I guess

                  Old guys thread....bummer.

35 5'6" on a good day. #175, daily back disc problems that blow. Ride dirt bikes / Jet Skis and hurt for two days but don't give a shit.

Drink every 4-5 days but not drunk like some of you fuckers. Good grief I though I had a problem with a bottle of wine or a bender for way less than you fine people every few days. Makes me feel better but in the back of my mind I can see myself getting to that point if shit gets ruff. Alcohol to me is something I wish I didn't need but stress and pain think otherwise.

Another thing...glad to be my age where I don't need to look at my fucking phone every fucking second like people younger than me. May be the wave of the future but I prefer to pass.

                    • 44, 5'10" 215 lbs, run four days a week, lift weights 3-4 days a week. Don't drink, never smoked, eat ok but certainly not perfect. I eat half a cup of oatmeal just about every weekday at work. I might drink three times a year. Ran 5.3 miles today at lunch. I get a cholesterol test every year and last time it said my triglycerides were a little higher than "normal" but that is the only thing that has ever showed up. It was probably the peanut butter I ate for breakfast the morning of the test, they always say not to eat but I do any way. Fuck not eating. I am running a half marathon in March and the full Dallas marathon in December.

                      • I'm just a tiny bit past my prime physically, but I feel great. I made a lot of change in the past year that helped tremendously. Unfortunately none of them have to do with my physique. I will be 43 on Sunday. A few years ago, when I was running 3.5 miles a day, sometimes twice, I had a DVT and several PE's in my lungs. Happened again 2 years later to the week. Basically a ticking bomb. It was nearly lights out a couple of times for ole Frank. Chalked up to genetics though so I am on blood thinners for life. My A1C is not even pre-diabetic, Cholesterol below 180, blood pressure not bad. I stay active with several things mentally and physically and try not to complain and avoid negative people and behavior and I have a much happier outlook.
