I've always been a little stocky and that hasn't changed. After my stroke in 2010 I cleaned up my lifestyle and mostly stopped drinking - now a couple of beers a night is quite enough. I take handfuls of pills every day for this and that (hey I'm old) and I don't get enough exercise due to work and school. The stroke has taught me to embrace my life and live it as best I can - because some day I'll be pushing up daisies and it will all be over with.

Obviously the human body can take a lot. Its no big secret that I did a lot of dope in the 90s, was clean for 10 years, then went back at it for 4 years. Lots of heroin, lots of coke, lots of benzodiazepines. I ODd several times, with the aspiration foam already coming out of my nose and mouth.

Shit I lost a car for 5 days and you guys got the play by play lol.

By the grace of God I woke up. Always an angel watching over me.

So, I deserve to be dead years ago and may very well drop dead tomorrow. If so my life is in order. I have a will and life insurance for my girl but in the meantime I count every day a blessing and try to live it accordingly.

man..you are not your dad. Everyone reacts different to meds. You may do fine on them. Dont end up like all these people that live in the hospital. Eat healthier and exercise a bit. I see way to many 40 year olds getting a CABG

I'm 40, 5'11", 230 - 240 lbs and have been a smoker since I was in my early teens. That said, I am in pretty good health according to my doctor.

High BP and heart disease runs in my family, and my oldest brother died of a massive heart attack a couple years ago, at 46. After returning home from his memorial I went and had a nuclear stress test done to check things out and the cardiologist said all is well.

I have cut down my smoking, and intend on continuing to cut it down to nothing, hopefully within the next month or two. I probably need to put a plan around it so I have specific goals, now that I think about it.

I cant tell you how many heart attack patients I have seen (STEMI) that said they have had a negative stress test in the last 6 months. One of the ER docs and I were talking about it a while back. Your Dr also isnt checking you for lung cancer, throat cancer, etc on a routine exam.

I'm short, I'm fat, I drink way to much, and everything hurts most of the time.
I've reached a point for some reason where for some reason I just assume I'm going to die soon. Be it a stroke, heart attack, cancer, aneurysm, or late term SIDS, I just feel like somethings going to get me. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly happy and love my life dearly. I want it to go on for a long time. I just don't think it will. SO FUCK IT I'm going to enjoy it.

Had a panic attack about 4 years ago. I'm finally to the point where every time my heart gets to racing I don't think I'm gunna die ha-ha.

I don't really bother my wife with my "fear" all I've really done is to start thinking about getting rid of stuff I'll never use again that I don't want her to have to worry about getting rid of if I'm gone.

OH and I clear my internet history regularly.

Mine was severe dehydration with not sleeping well. I turned bright red and had troubles breathing and arms and stuff where tingling and cold. Once I was in the er and they where running their test I was afraid to go to sleep. In my mind I was dying.

Stroke yesterday, lying in Neuro unit hospital bed.
                        Bp- 106/65
                        Total cholesterol- 141
                        Resting heart rate- 65
                        No diabetes
Only thing I can figure is related to occasional migraines and a shit ton of stress/anxiety.
Will be speaking with Neurologist shortly to get more details.
Can I give you a little unsolicited medical advice? First have the neuro do a complete workup--MRA of the cerebral vasculature, carotid dop scan, echocardiogram, etc--make sure no stenosis (blockage) or clots. Secondly, after you stabilize and are out of the hospital--have a complete inflammatory workup. Half of people in the US that have strokes or heart attacks have normal cholesterol, no hypertension and no diabetes (which all do greatly increase your risk)--what they do have is arterial inflammation. This causes plaques in the wall of your arteries to become inflammed then rupture into the lumen and then 'the shit hits the fan' (fancy medical terminology there... ). If you don't look for inflammation you won't find it. Up until just a few years ago most doctors did not believe this... now more and more are. At the very least get a VAP (15 test Advanced Lipid Panel), myeloperoxidase, LP-PLA2, oxidized LDL level, hs-CRP and a sed rate. Normal 4 test lipid panels do not tell the whole story--lots of people get lulled into a false sense of security by normal results and think they are doing well when in reality they are a ticking time bomb. Good luck and hope all turns out well...

No gall bladder, slightly dodgy knees, hyperlipidemia, 150 total cholesterol, 110/70 bp, 55 resting hr, cardiovascular "shockingly good" as of a couple of years ago (as evidenced by having both sides of my heart cath'd).
All in all, the docs tell me I'm in great shape, with no significant ill effects present from the hyperlipidemia. I quit smoking last March after 24 years, and only occasionally have anything to drink.

Broken/dislocated all kinds of shit that now gives me great popping noises and arthritis. Got in a motorcycle wreck last year and the doc said my skeleton looks like I am a 50 year old that has been hard on myself. Drink a few beers every night and a few more on the weekends. Been smoking again but I am about to get back in the gym so that will stop. No real surgeries in my adulthood and am pretty healthy besides stress induced HBP. In my family both my grandfather's and dad got non hotchkins lymphoma so I have 20 or 30 years till that hits and it will be party time. Not going through all they did just to have a few more years with a shitty quality of life. Will be a fun last 6 months living it up like Hunter S. Thompson.

                              This thread is depressing lol
