I bought my girls vehicles when they all turned 18, but by the time my son was of age to drive, I couldn't take it anymore, Football, BJJ, Muay Thai boxing, work, etc. was killing me, so I caved in at 16 for him.
Most might remember but I bought him a 1995 Lightning, it needed lots of work, but it was no biggie, we worked on it together. Of course he thought it was a customers car (truck) and I gave it to him after he got his license as a surprise. It was awesome to see his face after all the hard work and me riding his ass about doing things the right way he really took care of it and appreciated it. I paid for half and he paid the other half, that included the price of the truck and everything we did to it to the tune of right under $8k. He paid me back every dime and then sold it and bought him a 2014 Stang when he turned 18.
The truck was simply getting to cost to much to keep running, so before it needed a trans or motor he sold it. IMO the truck was a solid vehicle, he could curb check, run over shit and not do too much damage. He did have a few hiccups but nothing major and thats where EVERY teenager with a first vehicle will do and thats wreck their first cars. If you are one of those rare birds that didn't wreck their first car, then I golf clap you, but EVERY kid out there will get into a wreck, all four of mine did, some worse than the others...

Jesus what a couple. He'd have to get a stool to hit it from behind.

My parents were willing to put up 50% of whatever I could afford and I got a beater 4 cyl fox for cheap. My wife's parents and numerous friends had their first car paid for 100% by their parents and ended up with newer cars. My daughter and her eventual future siblings will probably be somewhere in the middle depending on how responsible they are at the time. I want my kids to not end up being spoiled brats but I don't want to send them off to college with a pile of shit that might end up dying somewhere in BFE.

I thought your first car was a Ranger. I almost told the story of what you did to it... lol.

That was my 4th...5th if you count the donor car I bought for my fox in hs. Loved that thing, kind of wish I still had it over my Mazda.

I guess my brain omitted that part and went straight into thinking about the sexy time between those heights.

My oldest is 14 and makes straight As in school, does his chores at home without hassle and is a really good kid. As long has he keeps this up I will help him all I can. I plan on giving him my current truck next Christmas. It is a lifted 13 F150 EB SC. He will have to work to pay for gas and maintenance stuff.
My sons will have a better head start on life than I did...I do feel that a child does not have to suffer and do without to learn goals and work ethic.
As long as you can keep them grounded and have the means, then why not? Most of us would do the same if we could. They will need some thick skin for the amount of shit they are going to get from kids and adults who in the end are nothing but envious. The way I see it is you can't take the $ with you so spend it and create memories. It's pretty clear you are pretty involved with them for as busy as you are. Have fun and just make your kids good people and contributors to society is my main goal

Agreed. As long as they do not become entitled brats then I will continue to take care of them while they are kids.

Damn, be thankful that you took after your dad. My dad is only 5'8" and my mom 5'1". At 15, I was 5'4" and starting to get worried that I wasn't getting any taller.

To the OP, I would probably do the same thing my parents did. Find an old beater and make it reliable. My parents bought me one car, I sold it and traded up. Still haven't stopped that process.
