used from a dealership? i'm seeing they might have better prices than jackasses on craigslist.

Yup, down in Austin. now, it didn't have a lift, or wheels, or anything other than a brush guard on it. It was just an old Farm truck.

The bro dozer guys think their trucks are worth about 10-15k more than stock ones because of all the Rock Star wheels, and lift kits...

My Suburban still had the original window sticker in it when I bought it, it was $42k new. The 2015 Suburban Z71 MSRP is about $63k. The new ones have a few more gadgets that mine doesn't, but mine is pretty well loaded.

Based on what I paid for mine at 7 years old with 120k miles, it was about 70% depreciation, overall. So I wonder if the 2015 Z71 will be in line with that, at about $18k, in 2022.

I remember you got a good deal on that. Totally worth it for a crew cab 4x4 diesel, IMO.

I like diesel trucks, but doubt I will get one anytime soon, as I just don't need it. I doubt I will ever own a non-4x4 truck / suv again, though. Mainly because of our Colorado trips, and frankly, it has been great having 4 wheel drive for when we have nasty weather here. I would not want to go back to two Mustangs, and be stuck at home anytime there is ice or snow.

Well, as long as I only have one vehicle, that is. I do plan to get another toy in the next few years, probably after Lea's oldest moves on (he graduates this year, but will likely stay with us for at least a year or two, while going to college).

No offense to Jared, because his truck is pretty awesome, but I really don't think those F250 4x4's need a lift kit. Maybe a level and slightly larger tires, but that would be all I would do to one.

prices of cars in general is just amazing to me. I will probably never buy a car for more than $30k. I will probably will always buy used and I am fine with that.

It just amazes me how people can pay $600 month and are cool with it.

That's no lie. I really should have jumped on that 2014 Ram I was looking at. Stickered at $52,900 (fully loaded, 4x4). Being a new 2014 model that they couldn't move, they had it marked down, to $38. They had 4 on the lot, identical packages and all the same color. I offered them $32,000. They came back at $36,000. I offered them $32,500. They came back at $36,000. So I got up and left. That guy was all sorts of pissed off, tried to give me the line about "I can put you in a 4x4 for that price, just not that one." I don't want any 4x4, I want that one, and I will pay this price for it. Not a penny more. They needed to sell it more than I needed to buy it. My father likely would have jumped in on the deal, and bought one of the other 3, had they met the price I wanted. So they could have sold 2 trucks they haven't been able to sell in 2 years, and they're still sitting there on the lot.

I've gone back and forth on replacing the truck since it's getting up there in mileage (180k), but I just can't get rid of it. Maybe in 2017 when the new Raptors come out i'll trade both the truck and car in on one.

"not that bad" is relative to each person's situation. Making a decent living, no kids, no real financial obligations, no problem. I hate my monthly payment and it isn't even close to $600/mo.

I guess this is the situation I can't comprehend anymore. Having kids, a mortgage and the normal expenses that come with all of it makes it hard to swallow a car payment.

Hell I hate our $350 payment for our Expedition, but it is no doubt a necessity in our situation.

Yeah.. I did that once, and it sucked ass. I did make a little more money back then, though, and had a company car as a daily.

I have only bought 2 brand new vehicles in my life. My 04 Mustang GT Premium, which I got with X plan and a rebate, was just under $22k. And an 06 Nissan Armada which was just under $40k, I believe. At that time our combined car payments were more than our house payment.. Not even including insurance. Fuck that happening again..

Good point. If I was making double what I am now I would probably be more inclined to spend more on a vehicle. But even though our household income is over double the median household income for DFW, I am far from ballin', and prefer to keep a little more discretionary income for fun stuff.

I know people that do much better than me, but are trapped in their baller house, with their baller cars, with little money left to get out and do stuff.
